You would not pass state inspection with those, even if they are perfect. Tires have to be under 7 years old to be deemed road worthy IIRC. You could hoon them to **** in a parking lot somewhere or store them for the sake of being the most thorough collector and put a new set on.

18 year old tires!!! Good way to test your driving skills when you have a blowout at 65. It is recommended to change tires after 7-8 years at the latest. Don't gamble with your life and those of your loved ones.

I bought my 50 A E from a dealer here NC,,,,,,,it had a set of Run flats with DOT 0311. Took them off back in the summer, put Grenerals. I think these are the second set that were installed on the car. They look good and the inside has no cracks or been repaired. The best advice is to offer them to someone as a tire to be mounted on orignal wheels for judging at a show,

You have two beautiful Vettes and an unbelievable garage and you have to ask if it's ok to drive on 18 year old tires. Common sense should be the judge here. Buy another set of wheels and tires to drive on and use the originals as wall art.

No, because 18 year old tires are unsafe.

Again.

I drove on my original run flats when I first got my C5. They were noisey and very slippery to drive on. It was a night and day difference with new tires. The old tires were basically hard and had lost their "rubbery" properties.

When I purchased my 02 vert years ago it had those tires on it. They were very hard and easy to spin with poor traction. Replaced with Hankook V12 and no its hard to break them loose. Old Goodyear run flats are a hazard

No way, I'd never go that long without replacing tires unless the car sat in a garage and was NEVER driven. My '03 Z cam with Bridgestones from '14 and I replaced them. They had no damage or signs of wear, but the traction was terrible and I could tell the rubber was drying out.

Those GY run flats were terrible when they were new. Get them off. Don’t destroy a good car over a set of old tires. Let alone hurt yourself or someone else.

Those are very heavy duty tires. Have to be when they're runflats. But at 18 years old......Let's put it this way. An 18 year old girl is old enough to F--- you, and so are 18 year old tires!!!! Beautiful car. Keep it that way with 4 brand new tires-ASAP!!! If I may give you one more bit of advice, personally, I'd never buy run flats again. More money, less traction, stiffer ride. Hope this all helps......

Ok but I see they still make a Brand New Goodyear Eagle F1 run flat wouldn't I just buy those to get as close to the original as possible. Thanks guys for the advice even though I kinda new the right thing to do already! They just look perfect like a new car with 3600 miles on the odometer!

Put 'em up in storage and get a different set of wheels. There certainly IS a subset of the community (NCRS, I imagine) that values original tires, but I wouldn't drive on them. Remember - it's not just you that's at risk there.

I'll agree and reinforce the safety issues of 18 year old tires! I have had this thought also, with a car of this age and such low miles it has had to be parked somewhere for a long time! Was anything done to protect the tires from flat spots? Did it set on jack stands, tire cradles, or even a piece of carpet under each wheel? If not, I'd bet that the tires aren't perfectly round any more and if you did drive the car, I doubt at a 'city street' kind of speed you might not notice.
But highway speed, you would definitely feel it! And depending on how bad the flat spots are/were your fillings would feel like they were going to rattle out..

I have a 50th AE and would understand not wanting to change the look of your car. You have a very pristine and beautiful example. And as the saying goes ' They're only original once!
I would hazard a guess that the wheels are in excellent shape, no curb rash, dings, dents? But you have a golden opportunity if you did want to change wheels and the look of you car to do so now. You could up size to 18 and 19's to fill out the openings more, maybe get a little more width front and back for more grip. You might even find another set of 50th AE wheels, although I have never seen another set offered for sale, to use as your 'driver' wheels and save this set for shows. With the original set of wheels and tires if you were interested in doing something like a Bloomington Gold status or 'Survivor' label for the car then the originals will go a long ways! Not sure if it has to be 25 years before it could be called a Survivor or not, either way that's not to far away. You could even say that the tires 'Still have original air in them'...lol!

I agree. That's what I would do, too.
