Hood Vents Yes or No?
Doing the hood on my cheap C5 build, I don’t know how I feel about the vents. One side of doesn’t want to cut up a stock hood but on the other side I’d like them there to reduce under hood temperature.
It’s not that I’m afraid to cut the hood, just don’t want to butcher a perfectly good one.

I am not a fan of the hood vents you are talking about. But, it’s not my car. I would say no, but if you do cut the hood, it should not be too difficult to find a replacement if you end up not liking it.

I think they look good, and anytime I can move hot air from under my hood that's a BIG WIN. My car sits outside though, I wonder how much water will get into the vents and what it may damage when it rains over time. BTW, I see hoods of all colors on Craigslist all the time, wouldn't worry about that at all.

Why not?
It is not like the average C5 is a collector car (except to us, of course ).
It sounds like you have not only a style purpose in mind but a practical one, too (to expel heat).
And, as others have said, replacement hoods are available. In fact, there is currently a black hood for sale in C5 Parts for Sale.

If that's what you have planned as it sits now, I say negative ghost rider, the pattern is full....Heat extraction is one thing, sacrificing the visual impact to get there, not worth it....Nothing wrong with being budget minded but, a Corvette is just one of those cars in reality that you're going to have to ante up from time to time if you want to achieve something decent....Just the nature of the beast. Just my 02 cents. Good luck on whatever you decide.

Vents in general? Yes. I'm in.
Those particular ones? Not so much. Not my cup of tea.

Yes and Maybe
IMO I think as long as they are clean and not obnoxious OK
It’s an individual decision
do as you want your car

First off, what's up with your under hood temperatures that you are considering hood vents?
Many people have done vents on their hoods. Erik comes to mind: https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...based-pen.html I think his hood looks great.

So, it's 50/50.
Put one side in. That covers the 50/50.
As for me, nope.
It's yours, do what you want, I always do.
If you like it that's all that matters!
Good luck!

Not a fan and don't find them to be necessary. I have a stock front end, stock hood with liner, and a engine/turbo setup making in excess of 1000 HP and can drive it all day long with the A/C running in the summer heat without issue.

Yes do it!
When I had my C5 I would track it often and although engine temps were still in spec (albeit slightly elevated), the amount of heat that is produced is a lot! Adding vents will definetly have helped with cooling. If you get the right ones they also look good.

This will be my daily driver, so reliability is my biggest concern. I don’t want to be stuck or stranded because of a failed part due heat.
I have had plenty of F-body LS1s, stock and modded but I’ve never had a corvette before. I just want to do my best to get it right the first time.
thank you all for the replies and votes!
