Just called around to some glass companies here in Colorado to get a replacement price for a headup windshield for my 2001 convertible. Glass companies said that the C5 headup and regular windshields have been
discontinued and discontinued from GM as well! I called Purifoy Chevrolet in Fort Lupton Colorado and the parts man looked them up on his parts computer, GM has discontinued them
for all C5's.
Has any Corvette after market companies selling them now?

Optic Armor makes aftermarket (and lighter) windshields for these cars. Reportedly, the HUD works just fine.

Well, hells bells! Another C5 piece that seems to have gone the route of the DoDo bird! I really do love my low mileage '99 M6 vert but the parts issue/shortages and/or unavailability does weigh heavily on me. If there was any issue that would prompt me to sell my C5 that would be it. Hope it doesn't come to that!

Having worked in the automotive glass industry for over 30 years, I'm pretty confident that there will be replacement glass for these cars for years to come. GM never manufactured windshields, they were always supplied by tier 1's. The tooling is retained for reproducing glass for most applications. When the supply gets depleted, a service order is placed to manufacturers such as PGW (who used to be PPG and is now Vitro I believe) and the order is filled using the "obsolete" tooling and placed in a warehouse for distribution. While not OEM glass, which would carry a GM trademark, it still would work. The only difference would be that the bend tolerances are slightly more generous and extra sealant may be required upon insulation to get a positive seal. Years ago, I bought a replacement windshield made in China, for my wife's van. I could actually hear wind whistling through the driver's side. I removed the interior A pillar cover and used a paint paddle to pack some strip caulk into the gap and it was fine after that.

A '57 Chevy is now 63 years old, and I'd be willing to bet that you can still find a windshield for one.....

A '57 Chevy is also infinitely more collectible than a C5. Plus, you can still find windshields for C5s - just not OEM ones.

Call your Chevy dealer and try and find a '57 Chevy windshield. Let us know how it goes.

had a replacement windshield in my c5z, HUD works fine...slight imperfection...but looking through my original sand blasted windshield got so bad i didn't even bother with my HUD

Maybe someone will help clear this up; I've been told there are 2 different windshields, one for HUD, 1 for non-HUD. Also been told it makes no difference which windshield you use. I honestly don't know what to believe. The guy who changed my last one said it DOES matter, that there are 2 different part numbers. Of course,, the HUD part is more costly (HUD Tax, lol?). Does anyone know for sure?

There are two different part numbers, so they ARE different. But there are a few guys who have said that the non-HUD windshield and the Optic Armor replacements (which don't have whatever add-on for the HUD) make it perfectly readable still.

Yes, they are different. The HUD windshields have a special coating on the inside. The HUD will still function with the non HUD windshield, but the image MAY not be as clear in all conditions.
