I feel sorry for those for you in the northern climes. Pushing 80 today here in Myrtle Beach, so we're headed to the beach a little later today.

I used to be able to say "at least up North we don't have to worry about hurricanes" but that is no longer true since August when we had one. It's going to be a long time till things are normal again as half of the trees are gone.

High of 93 here today... Trying to get mine back together so I can enjoy the top-off season. I had 2 winters in Utah with the C5 and it was terrible having to let it sit for a third of the year. You are right though, it was like getting a new car when the spring finally came.

Winter is when my vette comes out of storage. I spend my summers (not this one though because covid) in Cape Breton Canada and the vette stays in Florida. When it gets cold up north we come down to Florida. The Tacoma goes in storage in Canada and the vette gets its time for 70 degree winter driving.

I'm in Seattle and I have Toyo T1R tires that will perform down to almost freezing. I will retire the car temporarily when the temp begins to hover around 35F*. I took it out today and put it through some paces with temp at 43*, and they performed well.
I'm hoping to keep driving it many days still!

So sorry to hear about this "putting away for the winter" stuff. The temp here in the desert has finally dropped under the triple digits so I can take the targa top off and finally shut down the cars A/C. I guess there are a few nice points about living in the desert.

Melting Slicks
I got "the hay in the barn" last weekend, not because of snow but rather due to some back surgery that will keep me down until the first of the year. My normal routine is getting the pontoon boat and jet skies serviced, skies off their parking pads on the dock and into the garage, oil changed on the Z and 2Tone, and the hard top on the Jeep between Halloween and Thanksgiving. We got it all done last weekend. Good bonding with the son in law and I'm already on the rebound from surgery. Time, only time and I'll have them back on the road!

I've driven quite a few times when the temperature was below 40 degrees and didn't notice any difference in tire performance. Was I simply not being as observant as I should've been?

you probably just weren’t driving excessively hard. It’s less noticeable than driving in the rain compared to driving in the dry.

It depends on what tires you're running. My Michelin Pilot Super Sports are rated down to 40 degrees. I can still drive the car in colder weather, but there is a significant loss of grip. It's also not good for the tire. I used to have all-season (no season) Tiger Paw tires that were on the car when I bought it. They were alright (but not great) in pretty much any temperature that I had the car out in. Although I didn't drive it in snow or ice even back then.

I live in North Alabama where we can see all four seasons in a single day. Seriously. In February a few years back (day time temps were in the mid-60s but overnight temps would dip into the teens) I was driving to work and needed to make a lane change for my exit - my Z is not my DD and I forgot about cold pavement and cold GY Super Car Tires - she spun out, doing a couple of donuts - I recovered her and fortunately nothing hurt but my pride. I got my lane and made my exit only to get to work to see if I needed to change my drawers. That experience has stuck with me.

Home is 5 feet off the floor until spring
fogged the motor, changed the oil, and put the battery on a trickle charger.
placed Grandpa Gus’s mouse deterrent in the interior and the motor compartment
