Saw my first in-person C8 -- I'll stick with the C5
No photos -- not allowed at work, even in the parking lot. But a real bright red C8 that I could walk right to. Had been hoping that when I saw one in person, I'd change my mind on the bugly look, but it's the opposite. I'll stick with the lines I like from the first.
Not to mention a LS3 could be dropped into the '99 for less than the down payment...

That's a super cool story, bro.
Why do all the C5 and C6 guys have to justify their existance by talking down on the C8? I find it hilarious.

I still haven't seen one in person. But just yesterday, I did see the new Laborghini SUV at the bank. A nice looking "Grocery Getter" shaped for women. 🤣

I agree. It’s got performance but it’s not a good looking car. I do hope the C8Z nails it though. I’d hate to be one and done with Corvette.

I've not seen one in person but this video of a c8 in a stormtrooper finish just does it for me

I'm sure the c8 will grow on me, but it's hard to think of a corvette without a sweeping long front hood. I think the c7 is a far better looking car compared to the c8 (and the c2, of course, beats them all :-) )). I actually like the look of the more than the c5 or c6. But the c8... just lacks soul.
but I'm sure I'll change my mind when the 1000hp hybrid comes out :-).

Uneducated overachiever
I don't think they're "talking down on the C8". Some love the lines, some don't. I've heard the same thing about every generation of corvette, everyone didn't like something about the new ones.

I'm still trying to wrap my mind around the design of the C7.

The C8 is a tremendous platform, yes it has it's issues being a first -year offering but, overall it's a world-beater, and will only get better....Have been around 3 of them, and delivered one to a ecstatic new owner.
You can cross me off the C5 guy owner list bashing the C8. Thanks

Yea, and when you find the person to trade, it will be the same as finding a way to make gold out of lead. I wish you the best of luck and BTW if he wants to trade for my 04 send the person my way

The C8 is an amazing car. It's better looking (imo), built with a much higher level of quality, significantly faster and more balanced, and technologically superior to the C5. All that said, my problem isn't with the car, it's merely value to me. Let say my car is worth 10-12k. I can buy a C8 with reasonable kit for around 80k. My question is am I going to have 70 grand more fun driving it than I have driving my car? I can't say for sure until I drive one but my gut tells me no.

C5 is a beauty and for the money & with a few mods - it is an awesome car in 2020. Remarkable! since it is 23 years after it was originally made. C6 and C7 in my mind are interesting but fairly "similar" to the C5. If I were to buy one of them, I would not really see keeping the C5 as the experience is not light years away from the C5 IMO....
C8 is such a totally different car (Notice I did not say better or worse, just very different) and awesome car on many levels.
What I really like is if a C5 owner was to get a C8 in a few years (after all the initial bugs are worked out (you know there are always bugs - right, not a knock on GM, just the way it is) then as I see it, you can keep the C5 as it is such a different EXPERIENCE aesthetically and driving ((and the C5 has the M6, but the C8 DCT is awesome too (again different)) then you could perhaps keep (and actually use) the C5 as there will be days you may prefer what it has to offer (after the new car thing wears off) and days you will want to drive the C8.
Sorry for the ramble.. that is what happens when I start thinking about the C5 and the C8....

This thread reminds me of the C7 release. C5 owner bashed the looks of the remodel. If everyone thought like this we would all be driving Model A Fords. I guess here it's "love the one you're with". I'd have a C8 today if it wasn't for limited availability. long wait and dealer mark up due to demand.

My take on the Vettes is they've gotten less attractive to look at since the C5...the C6 was the first. I still think it's retained enough of the C5 lines that it was still attractive. I never have warmed up to the looks of the C7, and the C8 doesn't even look like a Vette to me...I think the days of the pretty Vettes are gone...
