We're talking about a couple of tenths 0-60, and maybe 3-4 tenths in the 1/4 mile. It isn't like today's Mustang GT is leaps and bounds quicker than a stock C5. In fact, I'd be a little embarrassed that a 20+ year old Vette can still run as close to the Mustang as it does if I were a Mustang owner...

To answer the thread title - Yes.

There is no reason to say a stock C5 is not quick today. It's OK to say it's quick and not mean that it will beat 90% of the other sports cars out there. It can hold its own. Just a few days ago some kid in a brand new VW Jetta GLI tried to race me and I didn't really even have to try. We were at a stop turning onto an on-ramp to get onto the highway. One of those double-turn where you are halfway down the on-ramp and it goes down to one lane. I was on the highway before he was even at the part where the on-ramp goes down to one lane. About 4 minutes later he came zooming past me on the highway and cut me off. I just let him go - not worth it. He probably went home and told all his pals he beat a Vette on the highway.
Against people who soup up their cars and drive around looking to race - it will really depend.

So, is it quick? Yes.
Is it a world-beater? No.

C5's are in the 20 year old bracket, some a little older, some a bit younger. In those 20 years technology has moved along with ever increasing horsepower levels as would be expected. To compare C5's to 2020 performance cars is like going back to the year 2000 and comparing the C5 to performance cars built decades earlier. The C5 was designed as a sports car, not a drag car. Although long in the tooth these days I do believe the C5/Z06 is still a very relevant performance car. Relatively quick in the quarter mile, even by the most current standards, and with an enormous top end which few cars can attain even today, combined with the handing and relatively inexpensive performance upgrades, the C5/Z06 remains as my choice as the performance car bargain of the century. To equal or exceed C5/Z06 all around performance you have to spend multiples of what a clean well maintained C5/Z06 will cost you. Just my opinion.

Its all relative, I remember late high school college mid 2000's, bolt on Ls1 cars were pretty fast. Cammed LS cars were fastest at most meets I remember. Now seems there are procharged or turbo 5.0s everywhere around here. There will always be someone faster. The weight of the C5 will always keep it relevant though in my opinion.

The advent of the internet has made people think there's crazy stuff around all over the place. We are constantly bombarded with videos of 700hp mustangs and stuff, we start to forget that they're actually really rare in the real world. They sell a lot of v8 mustangs every year. The number of those that get forced induction on them is probably in the hundreds in the country per year... If that.

The newer cars with more HP may beat up on a C5 if they are the same weight as a C5. So stay in your class with cars that are pretty much your equal. Add some mods to that C5 like LT headers and a good Dyno tune.

The C5 went into production for the 1997 model year. It had been in development for longer than usual due to GM funding issues, so it's more like 30 year old technology, given that the original intent was to launch it as a 1993 model (per Corvsport). Some contemporary road tests showed 4.9 for the 0-60 run, some showed a bit higher (5.1-5.2). Autos were slower. Top speed generally recorded as around the 175 mph mark for an M6 coupe - the C6 was the first Corvette to clear 180 stock.

Similarly the .29 drag co-efficient was good for it's age - in comparison my 2017 Genesis G80 sedan has a .27 coefficient, proving that technology moves on.

The similar era 911 tested at 4.9 to 60 and topped out at 161 (C&D test) and was rather more expensive. So for it's day, the C5 was definitely state of the art.

There aren't any that I know of. All of today's cars (including the newer Vettes) that have more HP/torque than the C5 are also heavier cars...in some cases, much heavier...

When I bought mine in 98 I though she was pretty fast....fast forward 22 years I think its average at best...compared to Camaros, stands, chargers, etc, its behind the times....However, a few Bolt-ons including a SC it's a whole new car....500rwhp is pretty nice for the c5
