Can anyone confirm more than one hood has ever folded, or been damaged, by high speeds? I saw a picture of that one and hear about it from time to time, but I've never seen evidence of any other hood being damaged.
I'm not an engineer of any sort, but I honestly don't see how a C5 hood that uses that stock securing locations would fold in half or get damaged from high speeds. It's anchored at the front and has latches in the back corners. How does/did the folding happen? If it's from underhood pressure (the only logical reason think of), wouldn't it be even less likely to happen on hoods with functional vents?
Also, I'm pretty sure the majority of us buying an aftermarket hood aren't using it for maintained speeds of 140-150mph...if you're specifically using it for HPDE or full mile events, I could see it being a concern and wanting something more "proven". But for the majority of us, it's most likely for a different look and/or reasonable heat extraction/pressure relief. I've had no qualms taking my unknown brand, less than perfect condition, cowl hood with vents that I installed myself to 120+, but that's just me. I personally think a lot of this superior fitment, superior quality, safe at high speeds talk is a tad bit on the extreme end.

Trap speeds I this half mi event went from the 120's to the mid to upper
160's... I found out after 1 warm up, and another race that my corvette Creations hood does NOT like high speed... I'll get a pick of it buckling in the middle... Had to remove it and go topless... and it gained me 4mph.

"We took it to the Texas mile and ran 205-212, on the last pass the hood blew apart and we loaded it in the trailer."

LOL at gaining 4mph by removing the hood, that's great.
Now THAT is interesting. So much for superior OEM engineering lol. But I'm sure there will be an "excuse" for that coming soon...lol

Missing part of the frame definitely makes sense, I didn't realize some were made that didn't have at least a similar frame. That's insane.

While true and easy enough to defer to, the same thing could also be said if you mounted stickier tires and a suspension component broke. Or you installed headers and it caused the motor to send a rod through the block. I'm sure he was going much faster than just a few mph over 174, so I don't have much to argue about, I was just surprised to see that I guess. OEM parts aren't typically designed to fail at exactly the advertised limit and most on the C5 seem to be surprisingly robust. I know it's not exactly the same, but the fact that a stock diff, transmission, clutch, and motor can handle 40-50% more power than stock frequently is pretty impressive.

So in a crazy turn of events I was re-contacted by the company I ordered the hood through. Anderson composites found out I cancelled and decided to make it right since I waited over 6 months. The hood will be put into production the second week of February. Pretty happy with that. I will let you know how it turns out. Link to the hood for reference. https://andersoncomposites.com/colle...et-corvette-c5
