Default Please help with my decision to part out or sell as a complete car

Car has 13x,xxx miles
rebuilt title
runs and drives perfectly fine. Drive it all the time but I’ve moved on from it and it needs new parts that I just don’t feel like buying for it anymore. I’m done with the car at this point and just trying to figure out if it’s worth parting out vs selling if it runs and drives fine?

The car needs:
passenger door painted to match the body.
Right rear wheel is different
new inner passenger fender
Front bumper foam. (The bumper is on the car)
passenegr inner door pannel

A model year would be helpful in determining value.
Looks like 99+

99 or before. It has wagon wheels on the rear hinting 99 or before.

Gosh, not sure on what to do. Maybe try to sell for $4 or $5K?

Speaking fromthe position of parting out 2 C5's ( an 02 and a 99) I can tell you up front a running car in the condition you posted with that many miles may net you $8K tops...if you sell it private party because quite honestly you can get a better car for that money. Its just the facts.

I parted out my wife's 02 with 189K on it and a motor that wa shot needed rebuilt again....after expenses we made about $15K and it was in 100% better shape than your car appearance wise inside and out, could we have made more??? maybe if we tried a bit harder but the car was at my buddies shop so it was harder to do everything necessary to really dig into it and get the last parts that would have maybe made us $500-1000 more. Anyway sold it all, just got rid of the passenger door 2 months ago and we started selling it 3 years ago.

My 99 was supercharged and drove up till the day I said **** it I am tired of dealing with the stuff that comes with the modifications and stuff breaking etc. I did this one from home and a storage unit, it had an original MCM hood, forged motor, maggie blower and it was running. I still have 1 quarter panel and some various small stuff laying around 2.5 years later and we have made to date about $28K after expenses...I would have never got that selling outright I may have got $18K -$20K maybe....it had 140K but only 5K on the new motor.

so...there is money to be made in good clean used parts but you need to devote the time and effort needed to do it and do it right and you need to work at it.....shipping is your biggest expense if you can gather the materials to pack stuff correctly and boxes needed to ship you will save some money ...again....its a job if you want to make it worth your while otherwise dump the car as it is for what you can get and move on.

Wagons are bolt on, would never use wheels to determine year unless looking at factory/corporate pics. I was looking at HVAC

Good advice by pewter99 - money can be made parting out a car but it can take a lot of time and effort to get things pulled and shipped.

Wow, that car has seen its day! I'd try to find someone near you that 'recycles' C5s. Guys like Vettenuts. (Nashville).

I have been parting out a M3 and while I've gotten more money in parts than selling it whole, I don't think it has been worth it. Takes a lot of time, have to deal with a lot of people and constantly run back and forth to ship things. Would I do it again? Maybe.

If you have more time than money part it out.

If you decide to part it out, I'm interested in the double din center console, and the double din mounts. Maybe even the head unit, depending on what it is.

If you are "done" with the car just sell it. Yes, you can get more money parting it out but it will end up requiring more work to do so than if you just fixed the few things wrong with it now. Just sell it as is and move on.

That car is a train wreck looking at the pictures. Satin finished cars aren't huge sellers with the Vette crowd. Missing panels (inner fender and door panel). Interior is shot (stereo sticking out, radio surround isn't seated, airbag coming out from under dash, tear in seat skin, etc. etc. etc.). Carpet looks shot, non-oem airbag cover on steering wheel (is that even safe? Does it have an airbag in there?). Need I go on?

Parting it out is the only way you're going to make money. That's a $5K car TOPS in it's current condition. If that.

Parting out a car is alot of work and alot of time. Time is the commodity that has different values to different people.
For me, now, my time , in value, is 50 dollars a hour. That means, what ever you get for parts you have to reduce the
value by $50 per hour. So I would not be making much, parting out a car. ( my value on my time is less, now. since I retired)
