11.556--02 Z06 with Only Mods: Halltech Tric and Drag Radials
The new forum ate the posts on the original thread. So I am reposting a slimmed down version.
Made three passes in the first hour of the Maryland International Raceway Saturday (Nov. 9) Test & Tune. Track surface was well prepped and was made superb by the full sun of an unexpectedly warm November day. Air temps were in the high 60s. TAG-measured DA was 1000'-1200' rising higher as the day went on. My best run of the three occurred when the DA was 1200'.
Track has hooking like crazy. It held ~4200 launch on BFGs with hardly any spin and the shifts dead hooked. That's a first for me and yielded the splits below:
60'............1.647
330'..........4.814
660'..........7.419 @ 93.24
1000'........9.663
1320'......11.556 @ 117.69
Due to the recent accussation that my previous personal record run of 11.61 was suspect, I took the 11.55 slip to the MIR tower, where MIR officials reviewed their computer records of this and my other passes (11.65 and 11.71). After their review they certified the slip by signing it. I'll post a copy of the certified slip once this Site has regained stability. The record run was also witnessed my several Forum members, including "Tracy in Alexandria" who was watching from the stands.
If I were to get the same track conditions at a 200' or better DA, the car should run in the 11.4s. MIR, my area's only IHRA track, is hosting one final T&T for the year on Nov 17th. I plan to be there.
It would cap what's been a good year to get thrown off an IHRA track for running 11.4s in a near stock Z06 on the final day of the season. I'll report back if I somehow manage to do that.

Not only was I watching from the grandstands in total astonishment, I was in the tower when the MIR official (a guy I know from my "old days", and is a longtime, senior official at this track) confirmed and signed Ranger's timeslip.
I was totally surprised at this et, since it was a beautiful, warmish day and the air felt "normal", not the cold dense air we normally get on a crisp fall day. It was more like late spring here in DC on Saturday. Other Z cars were running in the 12.10 to 12.3 range, and I think I recall a few 11.90s.
John--why don't you tell us about that 14 second pass? :) What happened on that one? See guys...he's not perfect, but he's pretty damn good!

As to my 14 second pass, that was the 4th pass and occurred when my hand came off the shifter during a shift; I immediately lifted and coasted the last half. I'll put that one in my spreadsheet logbook right below last summer's 23 second pass after I glazed the clutch in a botched double burnout....Not all runs go as planned.

Ranger--Yeah, we forgot to check the height of the timing lights...of course, everyone knows that MIR is steeply downhill, the finish line lights are set up "short" and the MPH lights are set up "long"....... ;) ;) ;)

John...you are just awesome!! I just wonder if there are gonna be 500 cars at MIR since it's the last T&T of the year? You know...3 runs in six hours?

Re: 11.556--02 Z06 with Only Mods: Halltech Tric and Drag Radials (Mike Siska)
Thanks everyone for yours generous words.
Mike Siska, thanks. MIR is never crowded the first 90 minutes of runs. During that time on Nov 9th, I could have had seven runs. And then one per hour there after. But after the 11.55 run, I stopped to get that slip certified.
Arrived at the gate two hours before sched opening...was 2d in line. Gates opened 30 minutes early. I was first through tech. And joined another Z06 in making the first pass down the track. BTW, the left lane was hooking better than the right.
Some one asked...What was different about this 11.55 run? The answer is great track prep, made even better by several hours of full sun that enhanced the stickiness for the full 1320.
Used a launch rpm of 4200 and got the clutch out fast...not a pop...but minimal slip and full engagement in a very short distance of forward movement...less than 10 feet. The rear wheels (BFGs at 18 psi) did not seem to spin at all, although they must have spun at least a little. My clutch release was the same that I normally use. But instead of my usual low 1.7s, I was rewarded with the 1.647. Again that's attributable to the super sticky surface, NOT anything else I was doing. This gives me a new appreciation for how some folks are getting 1.6x launches on BFGs....It's the track prep folks!
Ran each gear as high as possible and managed an (unusual for me) powershift to 2d and 3d...and did so without hitting the limiter. I never checked the tac. NOTE: I am being hounded by a member on another thread about the validity of my "claimed" high shift points. Whatever his skepticism, "high" is what I do, getting "one" with the feel of rising rpms sensations and it seem to work for me.
Held 3d gear to an observed 6500 and banged 4th.
Made sure to keep the throttle buried to well beyond the final lights.
Those are the things I focused on; hope the observations proved useful.

The pits are solid concrete with no rubber buildup. I had the fronts slightly turned and I took the engine up to about 3,500 and popped the clutch, expecting the back end to swing around and make for a nice sideways peel out.
Instead, the tires spun over a few times, rpms fell like crazy and the car just left like a scalded dog. If you could get 1/4 mile start lines to prep like the pits at Greenville Pickens speedway you could run 11.4's all day!!!

Tom--
And if you get the traction I did at 3500 rpm, you can break your diff (tranny? clutch? details still unknown) as I did right after Ranger's 11.55 run!!! :cry

Yeah I saw your post over there - sorry to hear about that! Hopefully an easy warranty issue that can be repaired.
