Radar detectors

That may be true, Looking for more feedback here........I know more and more cars are using radar for all sorts of things. Would be good to know from someone who had old one and now has a “new one” if it really doesn’t throw false alarms.

Right now I do not have a high dollar detector but I do have one that's only 6 months old.
I don't get near as many false reading as I used to years ago but I've used detectors for so many years I can tell when it's a true hit.
My newest one has a push button for in town use and one for highway use.
I really think they are all pretty good now.
I think with experience you will be able to tell when it's a real hit.
Good luck!

The V1 picks up a trooper's radar long before he can even see you. Most of the troopers in Iowa seem to travel with their radar on at all times or not at all. Very few seem to turn their radar on for brief periods. It's the latter you have to worry about. That's why I seem to speed more if I have cars in front of me, chances are he'll "clock" one of them before he sees me. By the time he does see me I have slowed down. When there is zero traffic in front of me I do what I call "legal speeding". On the highway that is usually 9 mph over the posted limit. There are rare occasions of when I have been clocked when no one in front of me has. I call this "Corvette profiling" (though it has never gotten me a ticket in the Vettes) or in the case of my red Talon TsiAWD, "red car profiling" (many tickets, especially for tinted windows )

With no front plate, the only reliable returns were from the rear view mirror.
A C5 is stealthy but not invisible.

Speed limits in Texas range from 75 to 85mph. Oklahoma ranges from 70 to 75mph but 80mph will soon be the new limit on some or all of their turnpikes. Because of these higher limits, I rarely use the radar detector anymore and just drive the limits or a couple mph over.
In either state, 9mph over the limit will almost always result in a ticket. When I'm in my car, I know it can cost me a lot when I jump on the loud pedal but hey, life without risk ain't really living.

I have been reading on Valentine One website, reviews etc.
However there are no prices listed for the detector, says out of stock.
Someone on Amazon reviews said make sure to buy directly from Valentine, not Amazon or eBay, or anywhere else, because the warranty is gone, since you are not the "original owner".
My car is still stock, and I made a thread over a year ago asking about stock C5 being slow, as I kept reading on here.
I argued that at least mine with 6 speed isn't slow, to me anyways, but I don't take it to a track or any racing events, and I also mentioned how it seems pointless to do heavy mods like I have wanted to do, when you are only going to get speeding tickets.
I'm thinking a good radar detector is a excellent first mod, to be able to drive a little faster, come on it feels silly driving a Corvette and economy cars drive faster than you are, because you are trying to avoid tickets.
Since getting my new tires and alignment, the car feels totally different, and fun, I want a radar detector!
PS, I used Waze on my way to work to see if it would notify me off the cop hiding around the corner, where speed limit drops from 45 to 35, no warning, but no cop at that time.
I'm not sure I was using it right, typed in my address to work and hit go.
Maybe there is a mode to tell you alerts without having it give you driving directions?

Best bang for the buck at the moment. I was an Escort fan for decades. Uniden raises the bar with the R3. I recently got an R7 as well. The arrows are nice. However it’s quite sensitive and picks up more falses than the R3. That said I run the R3 in my daily and it’s great.

I've got an older Escort 8500 with a Blendmount mirror mount. Love this setup, but as others have pointed out the 8500 technology is out of date. Too many false alarms due to new car sensors.
Will need to update to a newer detector soon.

If I read radar detector info correctly, most states allow radar detectors. Only Virginia and Washington DC do not allow them.
They are also illegal on most commercial vehicles above a certain weight.
Devices that jam radar signals from police are forbidden in ten states currently that allow radar detectors (except for Virginia). They are Texas, Utah, Virginia, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Minnesota, California, Illinois, Colorado, and Tennessee.

Now with all the safety features in cars, they set off false alarms to ALL radar detectors. Every different car makers have unique Signatures for these sensors. The high end radar detectors offer software updates that includes to cover these sensors. (PITA)!
That $150 radar detector most likely won't offer that feature and it will give you many false alarms. You will wind up not using it. In my case when I get an alert, I look around what types of cars are near me. If there's a high end car coming at me or from behind, I make a decision to slow down or ignore the alarm.

Good point about the "car-generated interference" with newer models. I tried connecting an older Valentine before heading to Carlisle last year - nonstop squeal - turns out that smartphones can also set them off! Decided that WAZE was the better option that day...

My Escort usually does a pretty good job at catching radar up to a mile up the road if I'm on roads with no hills etc. I use waze and it will automatically warn you, but the catch is other waze users have to input that police are present. Waze has been helpful for me multiple times, but my drive is typical of police presence. If it warns me and I don't see one, I let waze know to clear it, or vice versa if I see one I let waze know to warn other drivers. As far as the mod comment to each his own. I couldn't drive a stock car if it's a toy. My daily, a CTS-V is a blast in stock form.

I've had a Valentine One for years but it began picking up too many false hits from the newest cars from GM, Honda, or Lexas. I just sent it in (trade-in) to upgrade to the latest and greatest Valentine Gen two. Per Utube, it's the best radar detector made with the newest Unden coming in second. You want the best, the price doesn't matter. It picks up just about everything at about 1/2 mile out with just about no false alarms from other cars so they say. I'll find out shortly.

this is a borderline politics issue, but the virtue signaling of using a cell phone while driving is a red herring. It's true, some folks cannot do anything else safely while operating their motor vehicle ... but simply grabbing the phone isn't gonna run ya into a ditch/on coming traffic if you properly prioritize your task.
There ARE situations where engaging WAZE isn't wise at the moment ... having to maneuver for example. Anyhow ... for the most part, WAZE is a good resource. The map presentation is a little hypsterish in my opinion ... if the google or apple map had the same sort of engagement/warning, I'd dump WAZE in a NY minute.
....
I have a Uniden ($180 at Sams) it's not perfect, but it's better than the $50 Cobra. far fewer false alerts.
