I don't recommend Altec Splash guards - cracked my fender
I bought and installed the Altec splash guards a while back. I thought they fit and looked good. However, they apparently extend too far below the rocker panel. I slowly went over a basic, normal looking speed bump the other day. The splash guard scraped the speed bump. I got a chance to take a look at it today and it cracked the splash guard and my fender! Not a happy camper right now. Took both front splash guards off.

I wouldn’t really consider this an Altec issue or a reason to suggest someone not buy them. Understandably so, your frustration is warranted. But the whole purpose of a splash guard it to protect the rocker panel/fenders. In order to do so, they have to hang lower. When installing a splash guard, you have to accept the fact that your ground clearance will be reduced. It’s no different then when someone lowers their car, it requires different driving strategies, especially when going over bumps and angled surfaces. Unfortunately when something is mounted fast to another component and it takes an impact, something has to give. It’s a shame both the guard and fender took the brunt in your case. I wish you luck in getting your car fixed! Don’t let it ruin your weekend.

The Altecs I had also did the same thing. Had to have a body shop repair the damage. I tell people who ask to stay away from them. You can't always modify your driving habits when your on a road trip and have no control over what kind of surfaces and conditions you'll run into.

Sorry this happened to your car, but anytime you put something on the car that hangs lower than the factory components bad things can happen. Best of luck with the repair.

sounds like a good quality product if it can hang on well enough to crack your fender! sounds like you need to blame the speedbump, or more accurately, your ride height

I drive pretty conservatively. I felt an obligation to warn my fellow Corvette owners.

If you don't want to chance cracking a fender, I don;t recommend using these splash guards.
Jeez, I try to warn my fellow Corvette owners so they don't have to endure the same damage I did and now I'm the bad guy?

I was driving in a neighborhood I have rarely even entered. If I could have gone around the speed bump or even backed up, I would have. As it was there was no where else to go and I had traffic behind me. With traffic coming the other way I coudn't angle the approach. I virtually creeped over the speed bump and cringed when I heard it hit the splash guard.

I get it. Its all my fault. I blame myself for not foreseeing such an incident. It is a quality product that will damage your vehicle if you happen to go over a speed bump.
