New to the C5. What exhaust to get?
Hello Folks,
I got a 2004 C5 Zo6 for mostly a track toy this summer. The factory exhaust is very uninspiring. There are several C5's in my area that sound great without being overly loud but I have no idea what they are using.
Will an x-pipe help with sound quality? Most of my local tracks have serious sound restrictions (90 DB at 50' for Laguna Seca). I would rather not replace the titanium exhaust with something heavier.
The video is an excelelnt example of how little V8 growl there is in the car. Jump to 18:30 to see me hit a tire wall.

I really like the sound of the Corsa systems. Generally if you keep the stock catback, an x-pipe is not going to change the sound all that much.

I have a base 02, decided i wanted a good quality exhaust, and i wanted loud so i went with a Corsa Xtreme, the idle sounds mean, at WOT it sounds like a beast.. Maybe check out the Corsa sport? If loudness is an concern.

I still have my Z06 Ti (not bypassed). First I installed long tube headers... that made it noticeably louder... then some hollow cats (no emissions requirements here) - that made it again noticeably louder.
Now if you put a factory C5Z next to mine from idle all the way up to redline you probably wouldn't even hear the factory C5Z... it is right on the edge of being too loud now.
Here is an idle video of mine (MS4 cam) - cam didn't make it louder, just lumpier.

The number 1 exhaust for a stock system would be the very rare Corsa Titanium exhaust for the C5..made in 2000-2002 as I recall. Loud almost Ferrari V12 sounding. Next would be the Borla PRT straight exhaust--similar to the Corsa Titanium--but heavier then the Z06 by-pass modification. Anything else and you are adding 15-25 lbs of weight.

I have Borla Stingers running back from Borla long tubes on my FRC. I get a lot of compliments on the sound. I’m not certain how a cam would impact that sound however. I’m curious to find out and want to install a mild Cam to retain drivability at some point in the future.
that said, my stingers are quiet when at low rpm. Useful for sneaking out of my housing area on my way to work at the *** crack of dawn. They scream when when you get on the petal though. A lot of really satisfying crackling when you let off the gas as well.
the cons, only two exhaust tips. Boy I wish it had 4.
also they drone a bit in the 1400-1600 rpm range which corresponds to 6th gear between 60-65mph or so. Pretty quiet above that with regard to highway cruising.

had stock...hated it...went to borla...eventually hated it...went to z06 Ti....liked Ti but then finally went to corsa
the move to corsa was over a dozen years ago and still have them
save money in the long run by taking the route straight to corsa

Good luck with whatever you choose.

Most people seem to recommend either the Corsas or the Billy Boat PRTs...I can't decide between the two, though at least in the You Tube videos I've seen, the BBs sound better to me...

I have the Corsa Sports also, I've heard that BB's don't drone, but that's not my experience.
The addition of a Borla Xpipe to mine eliminated the 'motor boating' sound, and the overall sound is better to me.

I have the Corsa Indy Pace car exhaust ( They have a GM part number )and a Corsa Xpipe. When I bought mine, they came with a Lifetime Guarantee through Corsa.. . I've had them for 19 years. I could sell them tomorrow for 800 dollars and buy anything I wanted.. For me, they are perfect and although Ive heard them all, The Corsa Indy Pace car ( Now the Corsa Sport ) still leaves me with nothing but smiles.
Problem with this recommendation is that some people " Think" drone is a cool feature, and the more obnoxious the better.. Corsa has no drone at any rpm range. To me and my ear, this exhaust tone is nothing but perfect pitch music.
Good Luck
