What is it worth? 2002 Red/Red int
Hey folks,
I'm looking at this 2002 Torch red with Red interior. Ive seen two different versions of red on the interior, this one being red seat, carpet and some of the trim panels as well. Here's the info on the car.
2002 Coupe, painted targa 105K miles
Red interior
Auto
It is a Z51, not sure if that substantially adds adds to the value or not. I've seen arguments both ways.
The paint is glossy overall, some clear peeling on the front pass side of front bumper and other minor scratches and nicks, not to be unexpected on a 16 year old vehicle with the mileage.
The crash bars on the underside of the bumper arent broken but have had contact more than once or twice, bottom of bumper has some decent scuffing to it.
The only notable mod i could find was an axle back Flowmaster anda set of nitto 555 on the rear. Not all that worried about it not being a run flat as I'm not planning on going on any sort of long distance drives and i have a trailer and AAA if I needed to have it towed back home.
I took it out on a short drive (20 minutes) today and it seems to shift firm and consistent. no hard shifts or slipping into gear.
Motor was as quiet as an LS will get and ran through the entire RPM range easily.
No service lights came on either.
So what do you all think on a fair price for this? I'm in central Kansas and Ive been seeing prices from 10K clear to low 20's for similar cars.
Thanks on advance for your your help and opinion/suggestions.

10k sounds about right. I doubt any with these miles would be in the low 20's. Buy it as cheap as you can but don't spend more than 10-12k. Your comps have to have similar miles.

$10-12 sounds about right. If you really like it, show up with $9,000 cash and see what they do.

It sounds like a solid car. The peeling clear coat would bother me, until I got it fixed. 100,000 on a C-5 is well broken in, if it hasn't been abused.. Is it a private owner or a dealership? Make sure it's a clean title (not a rebuilt car). If you "love" the car, 13,000 would not be out of the question if the tires are in decent shape. If I were you, I'd learn to use the DIC to read the historical codes, then find out what they mean, ( assuming you'll find a few) Good luck. $9000 would be what a salvage car might get.

Thanks for the replies so far first of all.
It is a dealer that has the car, he's at 12800 on what he's valued it at and I'm looking at trading a 2011 H-D Street glide in for it. Sounds like one of us may be higher on the values of our vehicles than needs to be. Ive looked at a few cars local, this one being the newest and cleanest so far.
Phanni, I'll look into the DIC route to see what i can pull up with that. I did go into a local dealer and asked them to run the VIN and see what was done on it and they returned with a few non issue results.
Those being tire sensor and battery replacements back in 2002 and 2003.
the left headlight actuator was replaced twice within 3 months in 2002 which is a bit odd, but not alarming IMO.
I do wonder about what is labeled as "switch, Tilt/Telescopic steering column" replacement, ive read issues about the lock giving owners issues, would this likely be the supposed resolution?
Carfax shows 5 or 6 owners, looks like 3 of them are dealers or auction houses, i know this dealer bought it from an auction in kansas city, as did the one before him from another auction in missouri, none of this really is of concern to me as it seems typical.

If you can possibly avoid having a trade in, it would give you a lot more flexibility in your search. There's lots of garage queens in the hands of private owners that're tired of them and willing to deal. I do like that color combo, which is called a "mod red" interior. Stealerships are always going to make a double profit; on your trade, and the vehicle you're interested in.

I would say that a $12K price could be OK if everything checks out.

Thanks all for your replies. It is in fact Torch Red with Torch Red interior as the RPO sheet the dealer gave me states. Boy is it a lot of red too...
Based on the fact that I didn't want the bike through the winter and generally wasn't overly excited with the bike I decided to go ahead and make the trade with the guy for the car. I feel the bike was worth more than the 12k, but I didn't have much more than that into it from my own pocket. Plus even though this car isn't pristine, it's in great shape compared to all the other ones I've seen locally without having to either drive 4-500 miles, or make a flight for even further.
It's good to be back in an LS powered car though. I've had a 2000 Z28 and an 2004 GTO in the past, both with full exhaust and solid tunes. The Corvette however, is a totally different feel while driving.
I actually preferred the automatic over the manual for the simple fact that I love how a stalled auto sounds and drives while out playing around. I don't have a road course with in a few hours drive, but there is a drag strip close enough to hear sometimes sitting outside at night.
Looking forward to diving into the mods for the car and doing the other general things we all do when we get a new toy we want to make our own.
Thanks again.

Congratulations on a good looking car. I'm very happy for you. Quick comment re: the torch red interior. When I took delivery of my 2000 torch red/ torch red convertible, the salesman and many of the employees of the dealership all came out and said...."Get ready to see a LOT of red". They were right but I love it. You'll love yours too!!
