Default Friday evening = new MGW shifter

Just finished installing my new flatstick MGW. The install was very straight forward. I wasn't as fast as the guy in the online MGW videos on the website, but no issues. It's raining and I refuse to put the top up this time of year (okay, the car's clean) but I started it and shifted through the gears smooth. It even slid into reverse nicely. I'm optimistic for the test drive. Cheers!

Congrats, looks nice. I'm sure you will enjoy it! I have been on the fence between the MGW and the B&M and I believe I am going with MGW. Did you buy yours directly from MGW?

I drove a C6ZR1 with that shifter and it was literally perfect. Worth the $400.

I already had an aftermarket shifter so I had my lower box rebuilt by TMODS (vendor here) for $125 and it feels the same. If I didn’t already have my setup I’d make the MGW my 1st mod before anything else. It’s that good.

Yes, direct from MGW. There's a facebook code discount of 5%. The gal told me about it when I ordered it...so ask if /he/she doesn't offer if/when you order.

They give 5% off just by asking. I was buying them for customers and inquired about being a volume vendor; they said they don’t do that but I could get 5% off.

Simply ask for it and you’ll get it.

I can't wait to try it out.

I've heard nothing but good thinks about the TMODS rebuild. Wish I would have heard before I bought the C6 Z06 I just replaced. The C6 was definitely a huge improvement over the C5 shifter (with 65,000 miles) but not exceptional.

The c6 shifter **** has some flex in it. The cue ball on the mgw has zero flex and with the right tolerances it gives a smooth mechanical feel that is hard to reproduce. If you didn’t get the flat stick version and reused the c6 **** the feedback/feeling would drop from a 10 out of 10 down to an 8 out of 10.

The cats meow meow is trading the lightweight plastic **** for a heavyweight stainless (not aluminum) **** and you will never go back to anything else. 11 out of 10.

Congrats - nothing like a smooth shifter in a car.

Do you have a pic of it in your car? I’m getting ready to get an MGW and have been looking for something a little different. Have had their shifters before and one of the best mods you can make, but the weight makes it even better?

Thanks for the info on the discount I will probably be ordering mine soon. Not trying to hijack the thread but has anyone tried using a C6 style shift **** that is threaded for a C5 shifter on their mgw? I do like that race **** from mgw but I also like my current shift **** and will probably try to use it as long as it feels good with the mgw.

I too, have been thinking about a new shifter. Can't decide between a MGW or a C6!

I've had/have both. I originally had a B&M shifter in my 98, hated it. Replaced it with a C6 Z06 shifter and it was definitely better. In my 99 I have a B&M shifter and love it. I have a MGW shifter in my 02 and love it too. I recently did the washer mod but haven't had much time to drive the 02 since I'm in the middle of a move. If I was in your shoes, I'd look for a C6 shifter because than can be had for allot less than the MGW and the C6 **** is nice to have.

You hated the B&M in your 98 but love it in your 99?? Same exact shifter?

Google heavyweight shifter **** reviews and you’ll find that almost everyone that has one says good things. Not something that the masses know about so I guess it’s a secret hiding in plain sight.

Agreed. My shift **** is stainless steel with a Delrin cover. Weighs a full pound. My MGW almost shifts itself.

Ok, I got my test drive in and it shifts great. Very positive feel in each gear and from gear to gear, and a nice throw distance. There's also noticeable more noise coming through the console too. Is that common? I got a nice tight fit between the boots. I imagine the dynomat (and heat shield) were included with the kit to address this? .

Yep. Will have more noise, a bit more vibration, but the vibration level allows you to feel a little more like you’re driving a machine instead of a marshmallow.

Looks great and congrats! I've enjoyed my MGW (first version and second version with the billet lower box) for years. Enjoy yours!
