Been running this shifter for MAYBE 6 months? was just casually driving home from work, sitting at red light, go to put it in first and its completely loose. Open up the console and sure enough... snapped clean off!

Never raced with this shifter, never banged gears, nothing. As much as I absolutely hate it, guess im going back to the stock shifter

Any ideas why this happened? $230 down the drain gotta love it!

That doesn’t make for a good driving day. Perhaps you just got a lemon. Is it under any kind of warranty? If so and you want to give them a try again, contact Breathless and see about a replacement. If you want to try something different, I too would look at MGW.

Just another mod to improve a well designed vehicle. I always encourage owners to save their OEM parts for reasons like this.

My guess is that the shaft is heat treated and the HRc (rockwell hardness) was too much. Hence, the clean straightline crack. I would call the MFG. and have them explain the breakage issue to you. If I were them I would replace your shifter for free and want the damaged one back so they can examine it. They probably have a bad batch of them out there. That should've never happened.

I was looking at picking up one of these used a couple of months ago. I read some other instances where this same exact thing happened. Obviously i passed on the deal...seems like its a real issue.

That should be covered by the manufacturer.

The MGW is the best shifter for a C5.

I thought so as well, after emailing pics and what happened they only offer a 30 day warranty / were willing to give 20% off the price of a new one. Will be purchasing the MGW

That is an awful solution to an obviously inferior product from Breathless Performance......

Go with another vendor.....

If it were me, I would contact them again and make sure that they know you will be getting the MGW and that you posted this in the Corvette Forum so that everyone will know how good their customer service is.

Man, you just can't resist preaching your party line, can you?

To OP; I bought a BP as my first shifter about 15 years ago, and it was a real POS.

That’s worse than horrible Customer Service. If it were my company I would want the shifter back to analyze and determine what failed.

I hope you told them to “stuff” their 20%.
