Default Fresh From Paint, Now What?

Just got my Z back from paint, had the whole thing done. I'm thinking maybe clear bra on the trailing edges of the fenders and on the rocker panels? I'm also clueless on how to keep it shiny. It was polished before I picked it up, but I don't think anything else was applied to protect it. It's cooking in the trailer, but I'm putting it in the garage this weekend.

Because I don't know what I don't know and that's only half of my question.

I cannot speak to what products are best to keep it shiny but a clear bra anywhere on the car is a great idea! It is expensive as I'm sure you know. I have the entire front half of mine wrapped and will complete the rest over time.

I really like Expel Ultra for a clear bra that protects and has great clarity. I've done all of my newer cars with it.
As far as shine, I really like Zaino Clear Sealant followed by Zaino Z8. Clear Sealant requires no buffing. You can do a properly prepped car in 10 minutes. Gives a wet shine when you top with the Z8.
Enjoy the new paint job.

First thing I would do is contact the shop that painted it and ask how long to wait before I wax it or put on a clear bra etc.

Depending on the circumstances, it can take days/weeks/months for the paint to fully cure. Also ask if they warranty it against peeling if you put a clear bra on it and remove it in the future.

When I had my truck repainted they said to wait for at least 90 days for the paint to harden all the way before waxing it.

Excellent advice. Once you are sure the paint is fully cured, then I would recommend Xpel paint protection, provided it can be laid over a repaint and not result in a paint lifting if you need to remove it at some point. I would do the front fascia, front fenders, hood, headlight covers and the mirrors.

Certainly a good idea to ask the body shop that painted the car. That said, most modern base coat/Clear coat paints cure within hours and are likely to have been cut, polished and buffed before they leave the shop.

Time to hop on You Tube and pull up some videos. I'm just learning about the world of detailing too and there is a ton of info. You can get deep into it, or not. The sky is the limit.

There are separate forums for detailing. Check out autogeekonline.net and you will find well educated answers to your questions. My opinion, if the paint job looks nice and all you want to do is maintain it, apply a good quality glaze, wax, and sealant. Then just keep up on maintaining that every couple months depending how often you drive it.

IMHO ... let the paint cure then have the car ceramic coated and then clear wrapped and it will look like a fresh paint job for years to come.

A friend mentioned the ceramic thing too. I need to call some local shops and see. Right now I'm closing in on a month since the paint was sprayed, car is just sitting in the garage at the moment. Still needs tires and a couple other things before I'm too tempted to drive it so I can easily let it cure more. They said wait a month, but if I need more time than that no biggie. Gotta see how maintenance free the ceramic stuff is. You guys running any sort of bolt on bits for the trailing edges of the wheel wells? I'd love to post pics, but since Photobucket went full retard I've been SOL. I am aware of the detailing section, but I was lost in what type of product to use to protect, i.e. wax vs sealant vs ceramic vs. . . Probably would have been better to post there though. I see a lot of posts asking which is the best specific product but not much in the way of this type vs that type as opposed to this brand vs that brand of the same thing.

You can post the pictures directly here. There's no need to host them elsewhere.

Summary:

1. At your dialog box, click on the "Insert Image" icon. (it looks like a picture of a mountain).

(see first picture)

2. At the next page, click on the green bar that says "Browse your Device" and choose your photos. Click "Open" when you find them.

(see second picture)

3.Click "Insert" in the right upper corner to upload.

Oh! Didn't realize this site supported that too. I thought I'd checked before, but I must have been mistaken with another site. I've not been on much with the car having been gone/off the road so long. Can't wait to cruise again this summer.

Not sure I want the stripes back on now, it kinda takes away from the blue.

Ppf the front bumper and cquartz uk on the whole car. Very great product and with 2 coats, good for 18 to 24 months.
