Default 03 headlights pop up when I turn car on

Not always but most of the time when I first start my car the headlights pop up and lights on, even dashboard lights. I can turn the switch to on then back off and nothing.

They will go back down by themselves. It will shut off once I remove the key and open door.

Any help?

You might have the twilight sentinel option enabled. Is this happening under low light conditions (inside a garage or at night), but not when you are outside under broad daylight? If yes, then you just need to disable this option.

Twilight sentinal. Read your owners manual if you have one.

And if you don't have one, it can be found online for free via Google.

The twilight sentinel option is where I would start looking. I turned mine off to help prevent unnecessary wear on the headlight motors.

Turned mine off as well and as Vetteman Jack says it eliminates a lot of wear and tear on the headlight motor assembly.

If your car was being shipped to Canada you can not turn them off. Check sensor

I have one of the Canada cars, was able to buy a gadget to "fool" the sentinel. I had the same issue, would open the headlights in the garage, would also turn on the headlights way too early when I was driving. No issues since the installation.

Do you remember what the gadget was?

If you have access to a Tech II you can take away RPO Z49 from the BCM, or if not, you can replace the light sensor with a 4.7K resistor and permanently fool the twilight sentinel. More details here in Post #3

That was it. Have had this car for many years. My battery went dead, must have defaulted to on.

Thanks all.
