question about 50th Anniversary C5
Greetings all,
I have a 2003, 50th Anniversary C5 that my father bought in September 2002. I have noticed a couple things about it that I need clarification. First, it is definitely a 50th anniversary edition. I have the original invoice and window sticker stating that it is. The dash has 50th anniversary logos on the speedometer and Tach. There are front and rear 50th anniversary emblems, and the VIN number, 1G1YY22G935104231, also states that it is a 50th anniversary edition.
My father has asked me to sell it for him, (on Craigs List, Baltimore). I found out from a prospective buyer that it is supposed to have 50th anniversary fender emblems. It does not. My father said that he believed that it never had them. It also does not have the 50th anniversary embroidery in the seat backs. Were both of those features standard with the 50th anniversary edition? His car is black, with black interior, not that beautiful red with champagne interior. Were the emblems and the seat embroidery only included in the red anniversary edition?
Thanks.

From what I understand it's the red one only.
I bought a 2003 last summer also and it's a Spiral Gray Metallic convertible. I thought it was a 50th Anniversary Edition too but I found out the true ones were red only and the rest of them were just 50th anniversary cars.
Very confusing.
I love it though!

I'm pretty sure every 2003 is supposed to have 50th anniversary emblems on the hood and trunk. If you search google images there cars of every color with them.
Don't know about the special seat embroidery, that might be only on the maroon/shale optioned cars.

Correct. Every 2003 Corvette is a 50th anniversary corvette, but only the special option "Anniversary Edition" ones (1SC, I believe) have the special badging, and they only came with the anniversary edition red paint and shale interior.

I believe; All 03's were considered a 50th Anniversary car and had the markings as you stated. However only the "Special Edition" Red/Champagne 50th was the only model with all the "extra" 50th emblems. I remember It was very popular at the time to add the 50th emblems on the fenders and some suppliers were also offering embroidered emblem seat covers.

Look at the RPO codes sticker that is on the glovebox lid. The 50th Anniversary package is "1SC". If that code is not present, it's not the special 50th Anniversary car. The VIN would not indicate that the car had the 50th Anniversary Special Edition package.
As mentioned, the 50th Anniversary car was a special Metallic Red color, the interior was "Shale" and the option also included unique color painted wheels and also had the Magnetic Selective Ride Control.

The only car that was a true 50th anniversary edition was the Anniversary Red with shale interior. It would have had the 50th emblems on the fender (unless someone took them off) and would have champagne colored 5 spoke wheels. The window sticker and the RPO sticker inside the glovebox should have a 1SC code for the anniversary package.
All 2003 cars had the 50th/corvette logos on the gauge cluster and had anniversary 50 on the front/rear emblems. My 2003 has those items.

Also the 1SC package was a $5k option. Came with the anniversary red exterior and the shale interior with champagne colored wheels. A very beautiful car.

Thank you very much for the info. I have the car for sale and a seasoned Corvette owner was checking it out. He insisted that it should have the fender badges. My father insisted that they had not been attached to the car when he purchased it new. He had some fender work done due to someone backing into his left front fender (infuriating). I thought that the body shop scavenged the emblem and didn't reinstall it. According to your info, that was not the case. it never came with the emblems. Now I can educate the potential car buyer. Thanks to all of you who provided me with the information I needed. Long live the C5!!!

A quick search gave me this interesting post:
Without being long-winded and repeating what has already been stated in this thread: the opening question asked for true facts on the A/E, here is expanded information on three key elements; color, 1SC option package, and production numbers.
First on the color, the paint chosen to celebrate the 50th anniversary used Xirallic flake pigments, a trade name for aluminum oxide. These synthetic crystals have several desirable characteristics. They are flatter, smoother and more uniform than mica or aluminum. The crystals lie uniformly flat and reflect light where it glows. In fact, when this color debuted, many true enthusiasts were disappointed that a white with red interior themed 50th wasn't produced to celebrate the milestone like the first '53's. The color was viewed as a rehash of the 40th Ruby Red. Also to the dismay of many, was no Z06 special edition produced.
Two key components of the $5,000 1SC package besides the exterior color are the Shale interior and Suspension. Only the 11,632 A/E's and the 2,000 or so '04 C/E's have the shale (tan) dashboard and interior door tops of all the C5 produced. The F55 suspension was a new Delphi shock absorber in '03 that uses a magneto-rheological fluid to vary shock response according to magnetic input. In essence changing the viscosity of the shock fluid to match road conditions. This was standard on the 1SC, and a stand alone option on all other non Z06 units. only 3,000 non A/E's had this option in '03. Added appearance items on the 1SC include: Champagne colored painted wheels with specific center cap, 50th logo embroidery on the headrests, and of course, as we all know, the 50th logo fender badging. The pkg also had these options included in it: Elctrochromatic Mirrors, Twilight Sentinel, Memory Seats, and Head up Display.
Lastly, on production numbers, as stated earlier in this thread of the 35,000 or so '03s built, 11,632 were A/Es with the 1SC: 7,547 Verts, and 4,083 Coupes, so yes, 1/3 of all '03s are the A/E.

As everyone has pointed out, you have a regular 2003 model that Chevrolet also included some special touches on to celebrate 50 years of Corvette

Check Out the 2003 Corvette Owner's Video
Information from the factory (I assume these videos came with the cars)- There are also videos on for other years- very interesting and a great "quick start" guide for learning the car.
