Christmas parade
Hi guys,
I was asked yesterday by a young lady if I would drive her through the upcoming Christmas parade in our town. Of course, I told her I would. Then her dad asked how we could attach the signs telling who she is on the car for the parade. Hmmmm, I've never thought of that before.
I told him I didn't know. He mentioned masking tape but I wasn't too keen on that idea.
I'm sure lots of you guys have done this before. How did you mount the signs on your cars?

Painters tape works great.

I assume we will have to ask them to take their shoes off before they climb up onto the deck lid, right?

Collision repair centres use masking tape / painter's tape / automotive masking tape all of the time. All three types of tape are essentially the same.

Back in the day we used lots of methods, and there was only masking tape, not painters tape with the much less sticky backing.
One trick was strings. You could tie them to the door with thin string (like kite string) and attach the top of the sign so the string went over the door edge and to the inside handle.
If you worry about the tape, wax the car well before going. Of course, if you wax too much, the sign falls off, and kind of ruins it for the young lady.
Another trick is to roll the window up an inch or two and tape the top of the sign to the window. Tape won't hurt the glass and you can clean it with anything to get any sticky off later.
Take a very soft towel for her to sit on, preferably a large one that is folded a few times. This makes a pad so she doesn't sit on the hard deck lid and the very soft towel won't scratch the paint. Sometimes, the material in the dress or special things (beads, glitter, etc.) could scratch it before you know it.
Take something for the seat, too. She will probably stand in the seat to get seated on the deck, and then her feet will be on the seat the whole time.
Practice your clutch driving. You'll feel really stupid if you slip up and pop her over the back in front of everyone.

Got to be a lot easier than doing it in a coupe. Last year when I had my C4. I forgot what tape her mother used but no problem with it or residue.

My wife and I have been invited to ride in the annual Veteran's Day Parade in our 03 vert.
We will follow behind our motorcycle friends and my wife will throw out candy for the kids.
I'm glad to find out about the painters tape because I was hesitant about attaching things to my new baby (Corvette).
They won't let me throw candy anymore because they said I throw it to hard. Lots of sissy kids here. Crybabies!

Yes, I had mentioned in an earlier post if I should ask her to remove her shoes before getting on the seat and up on the deck lid and there was no response until yours. But I had planned on asking her to do that. I don't want any shoes standing on the seat, especially if it happens to be a high heel! And she will be more comfortable with no shoes on, too!

One thing to keep in mind (and I didn't find this out until last night) is that if you are at a parade as a club event that uses the NCCC Event insurance, they (NCCC) WILL NOT cover you unless the person is sitting in the SEAT. They had a situation a few years ago at a parade where a young lady was severely injured sitting on the back of a 'vert that was rear ended during the parade.

One FINAL concern:
Be careful with high heels and your seats. As the girl gets in and out, the tendency is to step in the seat. Those spikes will go right through your leather, a "not so nice" memory of an otherwise great event.
Have fun.

Yeah, I had addressed that above. I am going to ask her to remove her shoes before she gets in the car. I sure don't want any sharp heels in the leather for sure. And, as I had said, she will be more comfortable without her shoes anyway.
