I'm not a Ford or Chevy guy, just a car guy who loves Porsches, Ferriaris, BMWs, Corvettes, GT40s, and AC Cobras. Over the last almost 50 years, I owned 2 Mustangs--one POS on a Falcon chassis, and a Mustang 2--the lightest duty POS with 4 wheel lugs, etc, you had to turn the AC off going up hills. I've owned 6 prior Corvettes, 5 were solid lifter HP versions, and there is only one word to describe them all--BULLETPROOF. Do I love GM--hell no, we should not have bailed them out, but let them go bankrupt and reorganize. My son has a 2011 Mustang GT with considerable suspension mods headed to racing soon, ( I love the car and he is fast) but he has blown TWO Coyote motors and a clutch so far doing track days. My brother has a 2014 Mustang GT with lots of Ford Racing mods, but my mostly stock C5Z leaves him like he's going backwards . Personally I don't like cars that weigh as much as an SUV, and the Camaro looks silly when a grown man's head barely reaches the bottom of the side window. The Mustang is much improved, and I considered one, as well as a C6Z, but the C5Z is one of the most bulletproof Corvettes ever made--and that is why I chose it and will never change. And, I can add horsepower at will, and run most high dollar new cars ragged.

Same thing happened to me when an MD pulled into a car show with a stunning red GT350 that sounded awesome. Then, he had a small fortune in the car and was so protective of anyone getting close to it that it was hard to imagine him enjoying it at a track like he thought he was going to. PS update: my brother with the 2014 Mustang GT now says at his last track day his transmission is starting to fail, a pretty common problem with those.

Yeah these cars are just too good for the price!
Hey on another note to all of us C5Z owners, I have started a Facebook group just for us called C5Z Owners Association as well as an Instagram page under the same name. Without a specific forum for us on here now I saw the need for this. Come check them out if interested.

I'm keeping my C5 Z06 and will be buying a late model Mustang GT 6r80 or 10 speed in the future for street and strip. The new Mustang GT at 3700-3800 lbs of weight is quicker than my Z06 stock.
There's plenty of examples both ways of cars that have a lot of miles or have broken. Under GM, Ford and Chrysler all the driveline have vastly improved over 99-2004 years. It's apples and oranges.
I've had more Chevies than Ford or Chrysler but I'm not doing new GMs anymore, like the new Ford Mustangs and trucks.

A neighbor just picked up a Mustang GT 5.0. I think he liked the color and had no idea what he purchased. I told him it would eat my C5 vert for lunch and he laughed. I had many vehicles including a few Mustangs in my day. Had a few F-150's years ago. Today I just don't like the EcoBoost concept putting small turbo motors in big trucks or "performance" cars. My last few trucks were RAM Hemi's. Never had a Chrysler motor on my engine stand and I beat the hell out of a few. Can't say that about GM or Ford. they helped me keep local machine shops in business.

I agree about straight line vs road course, actually I remember some road track guys saying the C5 Z06 more then holds it's own against C6s, have no idea on C7s.
I use to tell my wife way back that IMO the Corvette was the best deal in America all around. C5 Z06 in 2002 was like $53k for a car that could run 12s, 162 mph top speed and get great mpg to boot.
So it is apples and oranges but the new Mustang GT matches that performance with the base GT 600 lbs heavier than a Z06 and a price of $45-50k depending on goodies in 2018 prices! 😁
I don't expect Chevy guys to convert or like Ford's or Mopars, it's about what people like.
I saw an NSX on display yesterday with a sticker price $203k! 😲 ......Thats beyond apples and oranges! 🤣
