Stock 4L60 swap in Z
what kind of power are you guys making with stock 4l60s? Considering swapping an auto in my Z. Looking into options. I'm sure it's been asked before but what all all the parts needed to complete the swap.

My A4 coupe has a slightly moded LS6 and most of the Z06 parts without any issues.
The 4L60 can accept a lot of the 4L65 parts that made it stronger (like the stronger planetary gear and better shafts). If I were going through the trouble I would get one from RPM. They can take a serious beating.
I still have the stock torque converter. You would get a way better launch with a higher stall.
The downsides to the A4 are it's downshifts IMO. With only four gears the downshifts are pretty extreme and feels a little out of control to me. Like turbo lag. I'm sure this can be minimized somewhat by tuning and parts selection.
What are your reasons for swapping?

I would put a convertor in it... I had a 4000 in my 4l60 in my 2000 Camaro. Planning to get more serious with drag racing. RPM isn't in the budget this year. Not sure of all the parts needed to complete the swap. Planning to call RPM this week for a quote.

As far as strength goes, I think it depends on how much torque you plan on throwing at it. If you are going with big cubic inches or power adders I would definitely want a built trans. Otherwise, with near stock torque, I would feel pretty safe, especially with lower gears.

I don't think that many understand what shaving a half second off ET's means when drag racing. This is one of the few times the auto is a clear winner. You simply cant manually launch or shift as fast as an auto when it is set up properly.
Z06 wouldn't be my first choice for drag racing.

Playing with the hand dealt... The car makes over 610tq and 700hp... Output shafts in the 6spd is what I'm worried about now haven't had the setup to the track yet. If I'm going to spend the money to have a strong t56 build I'd rather convert it to auto so I can get what I really want out of the setup. I figured many would be upset about it. But part of the game I guess.

I will bet it wouldn't be hard to find someone that wants to swap with you. That way you both would have all the parts.
The output shaft on the A4 would be my concern as well. It would be nice to have performance clutch packs as well.

Damn, I would love to have the M12...
I love my M6, but the M12 is WAY funner.

A stock 4l60 will not last very long behind a mountain of torque like that... I wouldn't even bother doing anything until you can afford to do it right. You'll break a 4l60 faster than the benefit you get from going auto if you actually drive it hard.

It would probably be cheaper in the long run. I have a Z to have fun, I have a f-body to smash people in a straight line for example.

Stock 4l60e wont take much abuse at those numbers. Id give RPM a call, im getting ready to do the same myself. As far as the actual swap heads up you going to need to do the torque tube as well, Their a different unit. Convertor also be careful on because the C5s use the older style convertors like LT1 Camaros and Firebirds do rather than the newer style LS units. I have some friends who have had decent luck with performabuilt too. Ive killed 2 stock ones before i went boosted on an h/c/i setup... i just melted my third with the blower, bout to go big and call it a day.

Wow. Lots of "Vette police" in here.
Check out the forced induction section. There is a sticky in there with a lot of info about how to do it. It's not hard. The Z makes a great drag racing platform up to a point. Like any corvette parts can get expensive to upgrade.
I did it. Totally worth it.
Good luck to you!
