C5 Z06 Build Plans (H/C/BO) - Thoughts
As I'm currently hunting down a stock C5 Z06 that I like, I'm planning my build so I can start acquiring parts. I've made a thread before with some questions, but I think I've finally found the build setup that I'd like to go with.
All input and possibly links for deals that you guys have found would be appreciated!
The build is planned to make good numbers, but mainly be for weekend driving and hitting the 1/4 mile trying to dip low into 10's.
- FAST 92 Intake and Throttle Body (is Nick Williams TB a better product than the FAST TB?) - https://www.texas-speed.com/p-3822-f...ody-combo.aspx
- BTR Stage 4 Cam - TFS as cast 220 heads - BTR said these would be best to go with the Stage 4 cam. Would a blend job on the valves be worth it along with softening the chambers and polishing?
- Flowtech 1 7/8" long tubes with 3" x-pipe (will keep the remainder of the stock exhaust - https://www.texas-speed.com/p-4852-f...ders-only.aspx
https://www.texas-speed.com/p-4897-f...25-x-pipe.aspx
- Morel 5315 Lifters - not sure of the best place to get these.
- Rocker Trunion Upgrade
- Full timing set with C7r chain - best thoughts on this? I hear double roller isn't totally worth it or needed?
- LS6 Ported Oil pump - Texas Speed - anywhere really better than the other?
- Gaskets/Balancer bolt/head bolts or studs - any really preferred over one another?
Am I missing anything? I know I can do it cheaper using this and that, but I'd like it to be a weekend track car that I can take to a show as well, so I want it to be clean at the same time.
Thanks in advance!

Depending on your budget, I would get the heads milled to 60cc when ordering. Ask Brian if finer finish work would be of value on the as cast heads. Everything else looks fine, but I think a factory LS290 would be as effective, and you can usually get a take-off TB pretty cheap. I think the single chain is OK for a street/strip car. Just because it's good and cheap. I'd recommend the Powerbond (Aussie) dampener. Get underdrive only if you never plan on SC'ing it down the road.

polishing the head/chambers wont get you anything
Planning on gearing it? Consider adding stroke to it?

I'll check the Powerbond for sure! I'll be keeping this one all motor
Thanks a bunch!
I might gear it down the line, I'd have to see how it performs. Being that I want to keep it as a weekend cruiser of sorts as well, I'll probably keep factory gears if possible.
I won't be stroking it, factory bore and stroke.

Am I wrong in thinking that? I'm not against 102/102. I'd probably need to get a Mass air to go with that and such as well right?

I didn't lose any TQ on my bolt on Z.Made 442/395.You don't have to use the bigger MAF but it will make a few more. You can make it yourself for a little over $100.

Don't you have to modify the cowling for clearence when you use the 102?
And for the OP; as cast means as cast. Not polished or ported, but with a stock block 346, I've read they perform very closely to the CNC'd 215s, like I've got. And Brian did some finishing in the valve areas on mine, and they perform very well.
BTW. CNC'd is ported.

Callaway Honker fits the 100 mm MAF. MAF housing from specter performance, MAF card from rock auto and the screen is from Saxon screen. Wiring harness is from caspers electronics. I can dig up the part numbers if you need them. Half the cost of TSP.

I'll dig around and see what I can find, thanks. If you have a chance to get part numbers that'd be awesome, but no rush!

I can't find the exact maf adapter from caspers I have. Might have to send them an email. It was around $23. You will also need an adapter for the 100mm throttle body which they carry as well.

Not trying to be a black cloud on your parade here, but with the mods you listed I think it will be very hard to hit 10's let alone dip into low 10's unless you maybe get some gears and spray it. I have pretty much the same setup minus the TB/intake and best I can run is low 11's, not saying it isn't possible but I think it's going to be very hard to do. I can even see high 10's if you can get 1.4 60ft and 125mph. I could be wrong, I am sure it has been done but it wont be easy at all.

Those 3.42s are going to have to go & upgrading parts from the engine back are a must.
nothing wrong with 4.10s you got 6 gears so highway driving is a non issue

Take the money you'd spend modding the Z06, add it to your base purchase money and buy a C6 LS3 automatic. Put a turbo or supercharger on it & you're probably close to where you want to be.
You start trying to get low 10's in a C5 Z06 & you will be spending a fortune replacing rear end parts, clutches, an on and on. Plus, why do that to a C5 Z? It isn't a drag strip car, it's a road course car, autocross car, and a fine street car.
