Default Battery tender connection question

I connected a Battery Tender Plus to my battery to maintain the battery during storage. However, after several weeks, my battery is nearly dead. I monitored the tender several times during storage and the red LED was always flashing, indicating battery was above 80% charged. I removed the tender yesterday to take my C5 for a drive and no joy. The battery is measuring only 3.26v. I've removed the battery and put it back on the standard charger @10amps to recharge. So why would the battery die with the tender on it? Maybe I didn't have it connected properly? I had the red connected directly to the battery post and the black connected to the stud of the hood bumper just adjacent to the battery. Maybe the hood bumper post isn't a good place?

Well, at least you know what the problem could be. I have a Battery Tender Plus and just connect the clips to the battery terminals.

I just connect the tender to the battery posts and leave the hood down but not latched. Works great and you will not forget to disconnect it before driving off.

My "tender" stays on the car when not being driven.

To ensure that it is connected correctly, I open the door from time to time to make the "tender" charge......turning on the corresponding light.

Just a quick check

best way to make sure it charges, and not blink red - which means not connected. Solid red - connected and charging, Green - all good and fully charged
