I probably need shocks. Suggestions?
My 98 coupe has 82k miles and is on the original shocks.
I'm just a street driver, occasionally spirited but no auto cross or track days so I don't need anything racy (read: expensive).
Just looking for regular duty shocks to replace my current used up set.
What would you buy?
Looks like three bolts per shock. Is it a relatively simple installation?

I would get C6 Z06 shocks - a nice upgrade over the stock C5 shocks and priced reasonably.

Me too, great upgrade. Throw in the Z06 sway bars and links too while your at it. It's one of my favorite upgrades to my car; GREAT bang for the buck, that you can feel the first corner you take.

I put Bilstein HD's on and I like them. They were recommended if you lower you car and mine is lowered. Pretty firm ride but works good in conjunction with lowering your car.

Are you anywhere near the Tampa area? Always good to go through surgery with a friend!

I just went through this myself and went with the c6 z06 shocks. Car now rides like it should have from the factory. Mine was an 04 with 72k miles. I used this site as a guide. You do not need to remove the washer tank or the overflow tank (or at least I didn't have to).

I have these shocks on My C6 Grand Sport and I love how they respond to the road.
Even slow, the bumps aren't very bad, and then when you get up to speed they handle great and respond to the road very well.

If you are lowered and are considering the Bilstein's, you should get the DRM valved Bilsteins. I have them on my C5Z and they are great on the track and street. They feel more planted to the ground but they arent as stiff as the Bilstein HD.
When i had the stock Z06 shocks on, the car would skip if i hit a bump while cornering. If i were to take an on ramp at a "fun" speed, the rear end would lose grip and kick out at the concrete seams. However, the DRM Bilsteins are stuck to the ground the whole time and they don't feel any more harsh than the stock shocks.
