Trading One C5 Vert for Another - What's the Difference?
I have a stock red 2001 convertible (automatic) that has given me no problems in the four years I have had it. I've been thinking recently that I'd like to have a triple black C5 convertible with manual shift. I found a 2000 this week that is pretty much stock except it has an after-market Borla exhaust. To me that's a plus.
I'm thinking of trading my car for this one. The asking price of the 2000 is scareing me a little. Price is $11,995. Isn't that low? It has 108,000 miles and paint looks very nice on the outside, seats a little worn on the inside. Top in good condition. Wheels look practically new. Better than mine even.
What are the differences in the 2000 and the 2001? Should I got for it? I'm wanting it pretty bad.

EBCM would be the biggest difference and might be why the other is so low. But there was a black vert here local for $9k a month ago. I only drove by it, so no idea what the year or miles were on it.

Going backwards to a 2000 is a much bigger step than simply one year difference. The 97-2000 Vettes have major differences in the electronics from those that are 2001-2004. You could get lucky and have no problems with a 2000, however, if you buy one and find the EBCM goes out, or the TPMS need replacing (and various other parts) it can get VERY costly quickly.

One thing you should note: It is easier to secure an automatic equipped convertible than it is a manual convertible when the Corvette is parked in a public environment.
If the top is down and you want to run into a store--even for a short time--with a manual equipped convertible it is possible for anyone to place the manual transmission out of gear and remove the emergency brake and have the Corvette roll. An automatic equipped convertible is more secure--because the transmission is locked in park and the lever can't be moved when the key is removed.

Here's a listing of differences in the C5 through the years.
All of this information is variously collected from the Corvette Forum message board, so do not take it as absolute gospel. However, it should be somewhat close.
1997
• Completely new, redesigned Corvette. Base (FE1) and Z51 (FE3) suspension packages.
• All Z51 cars include: Power Steering Cooler
• 97-00 C5 LS1's produce 345 HP @ 5600 RPM and 350 Ft Lbs of torque @ 4400 RPM.
1998
• Convertible becomes available
• Active Handling becomes available late in year
1999
• 26# injectors substituted for 28#
• Fuel pump revised to reduce noise
• FRC "Fixed Roof Coupe" aka the hardtop, becomes available. All FRC's are MN6 (6-speed) cars with the Z51 suspension package, and are about 60lbs lighter than coupes.
• HUD introduced.
• Only one line in driver's side fuel rail cover (no fuel return line)
• Power telescoping wheel becomes an option
• Steering hardware changed to combat wandering
• Door sill trim plates added
2000
• Millennium Yellow available
• "Thin Spoke" versus "wagon wheel" design wheels become standard.
• Pup cats added to all models for LEV emissions requirements (5hp loss relative to 97-99)
