Cool Find - C5 Corvette Lionel Train Set
My 8 year old daughter and I were visiting the local train/hobby shop today to see what kind of cool stuff we can add to our Christmas collection and the shop had this train set for sale.
I do remember seeing it back in the early 2000's but never really followed up on it. It's an O-Gauge train set by Lionel that was released in 1999 and it has an engine, two cars and caboose, the two train cars are hauling Corvettes. A 1953, a 1955, a 1997 and a 1998 convertible. The set appears to have never been run on a track. The owner of the train shop just purchased it from a local collector.
So now my daughter and I are going to be working on getting everything set up for a cool Corvette inspired train set up. I will take some more pics as I unbox everything.
So it wasn't a 1967 big block convertible barn find, but I still think it's cool.

I like the added play value of the detachable corvettes.
I started out with static playmobile with my young son, which were G scale, which led to a G scale train to drag the guys around the house, which I then took too far, into 1/32 slot cars, since they were sold at the same store, and we went there a lot.
both are very space intensive deals, and are now stowed away, along with the memories, but I did end up with a bunch of fancy italian slot cars, racing livery corvettes and stuff, some with working head and tail lights, powered by a capacitor so the tail lights get brighter when you slow. Also the lights stay on off the track, making it easy to find the cars when you fly off the track during night racing.
Happy new year and congratulations on the new box of fun.
