Default Why the C5 is the best Corvette

I read the article and I humbly agree wholeheartedly! I am the proud owner of a 2004 C5 Lemans Blue, six speed Commerative edition with only 34,000 miles. I keep it in my garage and drive it once or twice per week, I have kept it OEM 100% with the exception of window tints which are necessary as I live in South Florida.

My wife affectionately calls my C5 the "batmobile", I agree with that name, looking at the C5 with the pop up headlights and the sheer aerodynamics of the front part of the car never gets old.

I love my Lemans Blue C5 and plan on keeping it in the family for a long time.

Loving Life,
Nelson

Default Why the C5 is the best.

I had both C4 and a C5 (both Torch Red Convertibles w/red interiors) when the C7's came out. Couldn't resist the C7 (also torch red w/red interior)but also didn't want to part with my C5 because of the look so I did trade the C4 on a C7-wife urged me to keep the C5 too as she like it much better than the C4. The C7's have great improvements but when I look in the garage at both the C5 & C7, there is just something about the C5 that makes you look again. It's fun to get in it and drive, its still a classic look car.

Default Because it

obviously is!! Simple as that. I am getting a fair amount of free cash with my cancer policy, yet have no desire for a different Corvette. If I survive for awhile, other than a few interior and lighting upgrades, I would not change a thing. It is that good.

I have not driven a C6 or 7 and truth be told I could not afford one either. My C5Z is a fun well built car that I throughly enjoy driving. Hopefully for a long time to come.

Great cars.

Why the 04 of course. It was the last year they made C5's so all of the bugs were worked out

The C5 looses the Corvette feel of ALL previous Corvettes. It feel to much like a regular car. It does everything better then previous Corvettes, but it depends what your looking for in your Corvette. Tradition, memory all adds in my case to buying a older Corvette. If i could afford one I would own a C1.

To each his own.
I have owned 27 cars in my 66 years and my C5 doesn't feel like any other car I have driven or owned..........and I love that.

Owned a lot of performance cars in my time and I know I've enjoyed the all around capabilities and beautiful looks of my black 6m vert more than anything else I've had, and that includes my long time owned and enhanced 911. Of course, there is my age old fascination and love for a black '67 big block 4spd coupe w/off the road exhaust, alloys, black w/a red stinger..... Oh sorry, drifted off and was dreaming again! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all, please be safe!

May I ask what article you're speaking of ? I'd like to read it myself ! I've had my 113,000 mile 2000 Pewter , 6 speed convertible for 11 months now , it has EVERY option available that year. I've added a ZO6 titanium exhaust & K&N air filter , lots of parts piling up in the garage for install this winter. I couldn't possibly love a car more than this one , had a '58 back in the early seventies , you couldn't trade me that car & a bucket of cash for this one !

The C5 is not the best Corvette ever. I owned a 2001 ZO6, it was a great car, quick, responsive, and good looking in a different sort of way. I mean that notch back roofline is so different than the coupe or convertible. I replaced that ZO6 with a C6 ZO6, a much more developed car.
Most people probably don't remember that when the C5 first came out, it was thought to have a huge ***. It did. I remember going into a dealer when the first one arrived in town. Everyone in the showroom felt the same about the huge rear. Otherwise the car looked fine. Over the years we have grown used to the rear of the car and it isn't so obvious, but it's there.
But the real reason I don't consider the C5 the best Corvette ever is the archaic hidden headlights. The 1936 Cord had hidden headlights, although they had to be cranked up by hand. Mid-40s Chrysler products had hidden headlights. Hidden headlights time had passed really before the C2 Corvette arrived on the scene. The C3 looks great with the lights down, but pretty cumbersome when raised.
Hidden headlights by the time the C5 arrived really weren't necessary, headlight design and laws allowed some awesome lights.
Even many C5 owners agree according to all the C5s running around with aftermarket lights that don't have to be raised.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Pete

I'm a pretty lucky guy. I have a C1, had it for 41 years. I also have a C5 had it for 41 weeks. Started out looking for a C6 convertible but had trouble finding the "right" car. All along I felt the C5 was a better looking car but I wanted a newer one.

Figured I should give the C5's a chance so I started checking out the availability. Found one, just what I'd been looking for, tried it out and bought it and I've never looked back.

The two vets are treated fairly, this summer I drove the '62 just under 3000 and the '04 just over 3000. Love 'em both.
