Well I like my heavily modded C5 WAY more than my father in laws stock C7, it's superior in most ways mechanically. His interior and creature comforts are better but I don't really care about these things nearly as much as the performance

To me, all of the C7s advancements are ruined by its Star Wars looks...

To me it looks like the Bat Mobile. Eventually I'm sure I'll dig it, but haven't gotten their yet....

I have been a Corvette fan since age 5 and when I opted to snag a C5 over a Lotus Elise a couple years back I would have never guessed how much fun it would turn out to be. I drive it every day and every day it brings a smile to my face, especially with the roof off.

It's been very affordable to maintain and since I swapped out the seats a while back it's been very comfortable even on long drives out of state.

For the money I have not met it's equal in looks or pure fun and the Corvette community has been great.

I currently have a C5, C6, and a C7. When asked about how they are different, I say that each one does at least one thing better than the other two. In a sense, they are all 'best'.

Best I wonder . Back in 04 my 04 Z-16 list for $60,000 lot of money and the interior is crap . GM could have did WAY better on the interior also heat comes up from the pipes could done way better there . Some of the seniors could have engineered better like the low oil level senior no one knows how it works and very few know now to make it not work ( Turn it off ) Three weeks later myself and a friend figured it out GM was no help.. Other than that ,my 04 Z out tracks the new C-7s will out track the C-6s ( I have a video ) I did add 100 more Hp to keep up with the C-7s A/C is cold drive anywhere win car shows sits Ok after seat rebuild . Is it the best ? Damn close ..

Default Why I love the C5 best

However, I've had the pleasure of driving all 7 generations at one point or another if not owning them. Each has it's unique styling and personality and I could write a book report on each generation as to what I feel is "best" about each one.

As big a fan as I am of the C5, I mean I absolutely think the platform is just incredible. On paper and real world testing, it's clearly beaten by the C6 and C7, which it should be. Claiming it's "Best" I would say certainly there are some categories where the C5 would be hard to beat by the rest of the Corvette lineage, but that is some...not all. I love all Corvettes sincerely, I think they each have their "best" qualities. Just my .02
I find that often it is forgotten just how revolutionary the C5 was. From its hydro formed rails, to its AH, to the rear mounted transaxle, and it being the first marque to actually use an upper rear suspension arm instead of the half shaft doing the double duty, the C5 is truly the progenitor of the C6 & C7. People typically don't realize that if you photoshopped the color of the chassis between the three (C5-6-7) you wouldn't be able to tell them apart. Thus the C6/7 are really only updated, more refined versions of the C5. Even the LS1 engine of the C5 is the grandfather of the latter LS/LX motors. The increases in performance aren't . It as mercurial as people tend to implicate either given the increases in tire sizes, engine displacement, and supercharging. All of which can easily, and are often done with the C5. Now this in no way detracts from the improvements that the C6/7 carried in from the C5. Instead I simply want to highlight the fact that they are evolutions of the C5 platform and not revolutions of it. This negates, for me the logic that newer is always better. It also highlights why my favorite Corvette is the C5, followed closely by the new C7.

That's what the C5 was from the C4; an evolution. All of the features that you listed other than the hydroformed frame rails and upper rear arm, were either well into implementation in the C4, or intended for implementation but then abandoned due to lack of dime/money in development. Late C4's had all the hardware in the car for AH, for example. The C5 wasn't the pioneer that your saying it was; the C4 was. IT was the car that really started the philosophy that the C5/6/7 have followed, structurally/layout wise, when it abandoned the body on frame and started the unitized frame with glued on body panels.

It's missing the completed tunnel (which is a big deal, structurally), but it should looks pretty familiar.

C7 frame;

I know I don't own a Vette yet, and I should probably keep my trap shut, but I just can't take these comments anymore. Saying the interiors are crap is an exaggeration. I agree the seats are crap, but the rest of the interior isn't as bad as people claim. Other than the seats, I actually prefer the rest of the interior of the C5 over that of the C6. The C6 is way too bland for my tastes...

I'm used to the seats in my Corolla, so I wouldn't even say the C5 seats are uncomfortable, in fact I think they're very comfortable, it's just that the materials that make up the seats don't hold up well...

The next time you drive your Corrola to look at a c5; get out and grab the driver's seat back in the Corrola...or any car. Try shaking it side to side and twisting it. Then do the same to the c5.

Let us know what you think. It might as well have leather covered lawn chairs inside.

I will, but I already know one my first mods will be to go with aftermarket seats...

They're comfortable, but they offer broken levels of quality...not so much the leather etc.
