Default What to do?

Quick story first. I had a 99 auto, conv. It was modified quite a bit. I had the differential changed from the 2.73 to a 3.73. Even though the change was very impressive I always wished I would have gone steeper because I still had way too much top end.

Now I have a 02, auto, conv. (stock), and I'm in the process of doing similar modifications, only I'm going to go a lot further. I thought that I would have a Stage II 4.11 installed. My question and hopefully with your help, I can make up my mind... is this too steep? With believing the 3.73 not to be steep enough, I don't want to make the mistake in going too steep, either. What do you say?

The answer depends a lot on what you intend the vehicle to be used for and how you drive it. I'm not even sure what gears are in my 02 vert M6 but they seem to work just fine for me.

But "back in the day", you didn't have an overdrive transmission, to lighten the load......

In '68, I worked at the local 'Atlantic Richfield' station, for the summer. Regular was 36.9/gal, and premium was 38.9/gal. I think Sunoco 260 was 40.9/gal.
