Leaking fuel tank
Noticed some fuel on the garage floor inboard of the left rear wheel on my '04 coupe. Dealer said it was leaking from the fuel tank and I need a new tank. Said there was a warranty extension on this for 10 years, which has now expired. Total quote for parts and about 12 hrs labor: $2600. Has anyone else experienced this? What can you tell me about this? Thanks.

Long story short....
This is a known problem on certain Vettes, instead of a recall, GM gave a blanket 10 yr/ 100k mile warranty if affected cars developed the problem.
The problem was a leaky crossover tube from tank 1 to tank 2.
Bad batch of glue or apoxy was the issue. Written about many times here during my short membership

We know you are happy to hear this as news. Be sure to partake in the info that C6 Forum has as a STICKY

Advising the NHTSA will help, although they prefer to act on injuries or deaths, not just potential for injuries and deaths.
Might also drop a letter to the new CEO of new GM Mary Barra and let her know how you feel about this situation. This all started under old GM. Had this issue presented itself initially under her watch, there would have been a recall IMOP, not just a 10-year fix on the side. She is pro-active by my account. It's not too late so save your receipt.
Sorry for this expensive PITA issue.

Too bad that this is happening, but yes, it is a known problem with some '04 cars.

Danger - fuel leak issue
With that in mind, I'd urge the Moderator reading this to dupli-post the C6 DISCUSSION STICKY, as is, up as a C5 STICKY. Reason for that is the C6 detailed discussions will add to our affected owners sense of urgency. Lets not re-invent the wheel when you got a perfect sample. Just delete one word in the intro post. The one starting out..."I can't park my C6...." Delete "C6" and insert "car" and it will work perfectly bc it's a "carry-over" issue from C5.

5th Gear
Just noticed this post this morning. I currently still have my 04 and experienced the issue of vapors coming from the LH tank. The tank was replaced under the Adjustment Warranty back in 2012 at no cost. Now 4 1/2 yrs later I have the same issue reoccuring. First noticed it yesterday after filling the tank and it had been parked in the garage for 2-3 hrs. I still have paperwork for when the replacement was done before. Have not been into dealer yet but I'm sure they will not replace at no charge or even partial charge Pretty good-the orginal lasted 7 1/2 yrs and the "new and improved" replacement only lasted 4 1/2 yrs! Has anyone experienced this situation?

Melting Slicks
My C5 is an earlier '99. Just finished with this very thing very shortly ago. Came out one morning, smelled raw fuel, looked under the car and found a fuel puddle, dripping from the area to the inside of the left rear wheel.
To make a long story short, tank went bad, $1400 to a shop for a new tank and install. After hearing the quotes above I don't feel so bad. Best wishes and good luck!

I had same problem a few years ago dealer did repair and cost was covered by my extended warranty I bought for corvette. It would have cost $2100.00. Here is a few pictures .The picture with finger pointing to white plastic part was were crack / leak was at.

Gas tank
Price is accurate. I just had it replaced. If you are ever considering changing the fuel pump do it now. But I had to change due to user error.
