So my car has been at the Chevy dealer for a week and they still can't figure out what is wrong with my car

It's because you took a C5 to the Chevy dealer...... that's what's wrong ;-/

Find an independent shop that is familiar with GM high performance vehicles and you will get a much better response and your bill will be much lower also!

Sorry, just being honest. Dealerships are only for bringing cars that are under warranty to!

Sorry to hear your troubles with shops. Perhaps posting in the regional forum for your area, asking for suggestions for a "good" shop in the area to bring your car to?

If I lived in Texas, I would bring my car to Patrick Guerra in the Houston area. That guy knows Corvettes!! Now that I think of it, Texas is home to a LOT of good independent shops. Do a little research and ask some Texas owners here on the forum for some advise.

I stand by my first post, a Chevy dealer will not be very helpful with a C5 Corvette and it will cost a lot more than it should......

Not that I can be of any help technically... But just curious what is going on with your C5? Will it not start?

Wish you were closer, we have a shop here that is simply outstanding. Price and workmanship is unbeatable, not to mention customer service.

He actually travels long distances to pick up Vettes for work and then return them via enclosed trailer. Unfortunately Texas is a bit too far.

OPs thread from 03-25 says in effect after fixing a few other issues, has now developed a miss.

If it is the miss condition That put it back in the shop......after coming out of the shop for unrelated reasons, mine did that under load in certain rpm ranges. Ultimately discovered a a harness retaining bracket was not reconnected - the wire fell and was being pinched between the firewall and engine, shorted out something, caused the miss, sputtering, and Loss of power.

Most independent shops have no experience with C5s and the ones around here don't even want to work on them. The local dealership has a couple Corvette specialists, all the tools and manuals needed and the expertise to do the job. They are competetively priced, warranty their work and and make sure the customer is satisfied. I know some dealerships give all of them a bad name but the one in town is about as good as you can get.
There are no Corvette specialty shops in this area and I have been screwed too many times by the independents..

See if you can pull the codes from the DIC, then post them up on here. Someone should be able to point you in the right direction. Or if your current dealership can't figure it out, try a different one. Good luck getting it fixed.

Are you aware of, or a member of Bad Boy Vettes? The group is Texas based and has lots of connections to all things Corvette...

When I was a Dealer tech (I know a long time ago) there was no independent shop that could come close to the knowledge and experience of a Dealership !!!!! When they would send me to the tech center(Detroit) I would talk to the local techs and learn a ton because they would have first hand info from the tech center !!!!!

Dealerships do have advantages over independents for sure. Most of the best mechanics put their time in at a dealership.
