I just found this funny that I built my track day Miata for just a little bit over what it costs to buy install and tune headers on a c5 Corvette. If anyone's curious it costs around 3500 to build a track Miata including suspension, tires and buying the car if your in South Florida where they go for 1k or less all day

Full exhaust on a Ferrari 458 costs more than a clean C5

I bought Kooks headers with catted X-pipe for 1700.00 and paid 800.00 for installation and tune.

A 458 is also still brand new. My c5 is 17. Hell the brakes on a 458 cost twice as much as a clean c5

The bigger question, is would you rather drive a Corvette or Miata? If it doesn't matter, then you should go build a Miata. If you want a Corvette, then you'll have to pay to play when it comes to mods.
Another thing to consider, even though your C5 is 17 years old now, parts and maintenance still reflect those of a $50k car. The good news is that this forum is full of info and tricks that'll save you a ton of money during your ownership

It looks like you are suffering not only from the “Corvette Tax” but also the “West Palm Beach Tax”. Look at the XS-Power headers and X-Pipe and take a few hours to drive to a more wallet friendly shop, say Naples, Sarasota, Tampa-St Pete or even Orlando. Have the headers installed and a tune and a pleasure filled trip home with your new found power. Good luck.

I also went with Mail-order tune from http://www.eastcoastsupercharging.com/ 150 bucks may not be dyno performance ,but I like the way mine runs !!!!!

Yeah the west Palm Beach tax is actually the worst. All the speed shops around have quoted me >1000 for install and tune. From what I have read on this forum I should pay around $600-800. Do you have any good shop recommendations
What's really ******** is most shops around here especially monster Motorsports refuse to install anything unless you buy it from them at a stupid markup. They quoted me 2500 plus tax for an install with their house brand headers that's 1500 for non brand headers and 1000 install plus tune I assume. Or some shops i found they charge premium labor if you don't buy from them

Do you have basic mechanical skills? Headers are not difficult to install. The C5 has space issues, but it's easily doable on jack stands in your garage.

That's what I was going to say. I've done all my mods, and if it's just headers, you don't need to rush out and get a tune immediately.

Yes I do but I live in a condo with no area to work on it. I am actively trying to find someone who has a lift or area to work on ot but that has been difficult so far. I have done major mechanical work before but nothing like this on a Corvette.

You don't need a lift. I did mine on jack stands just fine. I've done lots of work out of a one car apartment garage before, but if you have high rise type parking I can see where you're coming from. Some places have DIY type things where you can rent lifts and tools. Maybe look into something like that.

I was quoted $700 for header install and tune from a shop in Kansas City. Cost of the headers will vary depending on what you pick.

If they were carbon brake components then it makes more sense but spendy regardless!
