is my car totaled?
Hey everyone,
Well this morning I was driving to work and a car ran a stop sign and I ended up hitting them. Luckily a police officer was behind them and saw the whole thing and gave them a ticket. Both my airbags deployed and there is damage to the bumper, both fenders, lights and hood. I turned on the car to drive it a few blocks home and my gauges were on and it had trouble starting
and steering. It's an 04 and I was wondering if y'all think it will be totaled out?

....Have it checked at a frame shop to see if anything was bent/twisted on the frame, if yes, then it's a total. Sorry to see this happen to your car. The insurance company will consider the costs to repair, versus the cars book value and will make their call. Depending how attached you are to the car, you will have the option to buy it back after settlement if you so desire. Hard to assess the real damage by just a picture, but I'm willing to bet the insurance company (depending on company) will call this a total.

Your airbags deployed?!? Its looking like a tossup between being totaled or them trying to fix it. If it were me Id tell them to total it and then buy it back. Depends on how many miles are on the car really.

I would not want to own a car which had the airbags deployed. It is a very complex system and challenging to repair. Time for a new Vette, hopefully paid for by the clown who ran the light!

Sounds like quite a bit of damage. If I had to make a guess, I'd say it does not look good for it not being a total loss. I'm assuming you are OK and that is what really counts.

Even if there is absolutely no structural damage, just the airbags alone is enough to total it, especially it being such an old car.

I have to agree with others above, it's probably totalled in the insurance eyes.
On the bright side, You should be totally compensated by the other driver and she can be an organ donor to other C5s

We buy wrecked Vettes from the insurance company's every week with less damage that are salvage.. This car is totaled, however you do have the option to retain salvage and repair. I can get you all the parts. Thats your call if you want to go thru all the work. Let me know if there is anything i can do. If you have any questions feel free to give me a call.

Purely out of curiosity, how does a Vette get totalled based on the damage above? Several people have commented that deployment of airbags by itself is enough to do so. I am not that familiar and would love to know more just for my own education.
