I did a chrome V.S. Black comparison

If your wheels are ugly and you don't want anybody to notice them, paint them black, they will hide with the tires. If you have a good looking set of wheels, then chrome, they will stand out from the tires. My own personal opinion is polished wheels or a darker (gray or black) with a polished lip and chrome lug nuts.

Greetings wheel enthusiasts! As for the age factor, I can't even remember being 50! I'm having too much fun with my Red C6! To me it boils down to who you're trying to impress. If it's the stealth, ready to race look, to win over the guys at the track, then black is your color. If the opposite sex or the judges at the car show are your intended audience, then a highly polished, gleaming in the morning sun, (real, not that faux "chrome-like" finish) Chrome wheel is your finish of choice! But, if the only person you're out to please is the owner of your Corvette, then the answer is whatever you think coordinates with the color of your pride and joy! Just sayin.

I like both. They both have a different look, black = racing, agrresive; chrome = daily driver, classy
HOWEVER, if you are going with the black, get rid of the yellow writing, especially the writing on the back tires, whoa!
And I would change the wheel design for the chrome. They look like they the deep dish wheels you see on trucks.

two types of corvette owners in my opinion...
the corvette car show type/waxer , chrome or polished wheels. chrome exhaust plate, chrome lettering, etc.. (majority of corvette owners)
the corvette owner that takes it to the track and or drives it like it was designed to be driven, motor hits redline pretty often.. less likely to have chrome/polished wheels.
(minority of corvette owners and often younger)
I personally do not like chrome/polished wheels except for maybe a ccw classic or 505.

My point being performance oriented owners are typically the ones who don't like chrome wheels. Chrome just looks tacky. I like gunmetal and the argent grey on the oem zo6 wheels, even silver on some cars looks good. But chrome... Eek.. My cousin has a beautiful 12,000 mile procharged ws6. He spend 5 grand on polished fiske wheels. We have argued about it for the last year. We have agreed to disagree. He is close in age to me so I don't thing it's so much a generation thing either. My dad is 63 and thinks as I do. This actually is what makes cars so awesome. U can modify it to your own taste and like.

Chrome is for show, Black is bad and is a warning color to others,,, like bright colors on creatures in nature represent them as poisonous. So chrome means you show off,,, like a bright plumed peacock where as black says,, you'd be smart not to mess with me. IE: CHROME SUCKS and is for nancy boys,, yeah you know who you are nancy

The English and ze Germans think the American's affection for chrome things is funny and a bit tacky. Mclaren, Aston Martin, Nobel, Porsche, Audi, BMW, hell not even FORD UK sells a bare bones car with chrome anything. If you want to show off your wheels, silver and machined are the cleanest. On an old classic car chrome perfectly fine if done with moderation. But anything from the 2000's is just nope.
Black, white, grey, silver, machined, bronze, any other color > Chrome.

Looking at black wheels on a car gives me same reaction as seeing someone walking on the beach in a swim suit with black socks and shoes. Specially the oversize wheels with the 1" sidewall tires. Wouldn't drive one, too embarrassing.

This thread is goofball. I'm mid 40's.. Painted my C5 Z wheels black 8 years ago. Guess what I see everywhere in the summer. Black wheels on every late make, model car out there... even 20 year old rice... you can't even see the spoke design in black.. sorry.. in the right design chrome looks classy and racey. You have to read between the lines.. I am getting chrome speedline spyders next month and wouldn't change a thing. Don't care for the chrome 1st gen Z06 wheels.. but I like them in comp gray only. Do we all remember way back in 2009 when the ZR-1 came out with its own multi spoke wheels in chrome. Still the fastest corvette made. Wheels looked like the cat's ***. Still do! Meow.
Again this is all opinions... I was black when black wasn't the "thing".. Chrome has never gone outta style... black is maxed out IMO... when you have gorgeous chrome wheels that make a waxed Victory Red Z "pop" in the sunlight and a lumpy cam, trust me you get looks. Fire and Ice I call it.
Saying that gloss black spyders were my second choice!
Tell me this doesn't look hot and racey... really?
