[Z06] Should I ever buy a Z06?

Thats the truth. I have had a C4, C5 and was looking for a 08 Z06 but as I started looking I was not willing to pay $45,000 for a weekend/car show toy. Went with a 04 Z06 one owner with only 18,881 miles. Got it for $24,000 and have loved every minute in it.

Think you are confusing issues and wisdom of the advice. If you are spending 15.5K on a 110K miles car, then yes, you should plan to spend another 3-5K on it over the next year.
Why?
1. Tires (unless they have recently been replaced).
2. Shocks (again unless they have recently been replaced).
3. Plugs and wires (unless they have recently been replaced).
4. Total fluid flush (unless they have all been replaced recently ).
5. Brake pads (unless they have recently been replaced).
6. Wheel bearings (unless they have recently been replaced)
7. Control arm bushings, other suspension bushings (unless they have recently been replaced).
8. Window seals, trunk seals (may be OK, but that many miles usually indicates daily driver and weather along with age and miles( may not need it, but would check).
9. Window actuators, HVAC actuators, HVAC head unit (unless already replaced).
10. AC controls (Dyer, compressor, etc).
11. Miscellaneous items.
12. Clutch, Pressure plate, etc (unless it has been replaced).
13. Seat Covers and other interior items.
14. Tie rods ends.
15. Air Dam, flush and boil out radiator
16. Water pump
17. Fuel Pump
18, All filters
19, Seals (wheel bearing seals, valve cover seals, etc.)

OP - if the car checks out, it is a good deal. 110k for a 12 year old car is not a lot. If the owner has good maintenance records, and a PPI checks out, get it.

If I chose to, I can burn the tires off the car. It still pulls pretty well but may be due for a clutch in the not too distant future. I still think it can go from 0 to a ticket in under 4 seconds.
Here is a picture of it from earlier this year. It is a nice 10 footer, not a show car. Then again, when I'm passing you at 70MPH, it looks perfect!

I have a high mile 02 it was well cared for over it's lifetime, I get to enjoy the car almost everyday.
What I like about having a not so perfect car is you can enjoy it without the guilt.
I like it so much if my 2015 sold I wouldn't replace it I would just continue to drive and enjoy.
Unfortunately I can't afford to own 2 so I have to sell one, whoever buys this Z is going to get a dam good car.
If you find one close enough don't be afraid to buy especially if it was kept in tact, to me that says the car wasn't screwed with.
I don't believe anyone ever puts a bunch of performance enhancers on an engine to look at it.

Let's see... a soon to be 13 y/o car w 110K.... That averages out to < 10K per yr... $15K, 2 owners... BLACK, What's not to like? My 01 C5Z has 149K on the chassis... EVERYTHING has been upgraded and the car is FULLY built... But I DD the car up to 88K mi w/o a hiccup....
The whole LS1/LS6 thing is very open ended... Case in point... I also have an 02 Camaro SS 35th LE ( LS6 block from the factory) and I have 157K mi on it.... oil pressure stays @ 40-60 PSI and even in this TX weather it never gets passed 210 deg... Rides and drives like a dream... Matter of fact, I am getting ready to add a cam to it soon... So, don't listen to the hater, nay sayer... Oh, the "old guy" argument... I am 50 y/o... Do I fall into that category? $15K is not a bad deal at all.... Go drive it, watch the oil temp, pressure, coolant, run the AC on high, check all windows, door locks, clutch fluid, oil, coolant, insure the cooling fans are cycling on.. You can tell real fast if it is a lemon.... Also pull the codes... Identify the "History vs "Current"....
Just my .02....

That is way too many miles for a C5Z.... You should trade me for my 02 LE SS.....

I know this is kinda the wrong place for this, but I'm just curious (And you guys seem more knowledgeable than the other forum where I've asked about these kind of things in the past) does this look like a good deal on a GTO? Just planning in case something falls through on the Z06.

I was kind of thinking this too, but wanted to be sure. I don't like knowing a car had drag tires, if it had a set of winter tires is one thing but not that. Plus combined with a cam and driveshaft, I'd imagine it could've been abused too. It's really far from me, but the price seemed decent for the year.

Got it, will definitely check. I'm guessing if it has issues leaking it will be very brittle and full of cracks? Or will it just be missing pieces like the pic I posted? I had a car that was like that where a chunk of that hard plastic weatherstripping around the back window was totally missing yet the car never leaked. I filled it in just as a precaution anyway.

I'd like to drive it until it has at least 350k miles. That way I can say I am responsible for more than half the miles on it. At the rate I'm putting miles on it now, it will be another 5-6 years. If I didn't have to park it for the winter, it could be less time.
Nice car BTW.

That's not always the case. My car's never been raced, or even done a burnout in the 19,478 miles I've accumulated over the last 12 years. 643/519SAE. I did an extremely unsafe top speed run when the car only had headers, (about 11 yrs ago) but had to let off at 165. I just like to tinker.
