Default Thinking about 1.80 or 1.85 rockersfor my z. any ideas

Curious about information on changing out the stock rockers arm on stock cam 02 z06 with 1.80 or 1.85 who makes the nicest kit? Any drawbacks or problems people have had. Thanks for advice.

I had also considered doing this. The only kit I know of is SLP. For the price of their kit you could do a cam instead, especially if you could do it yourself, which I would do. And you'll get much better performance that way with more options about how you'd want it to run. The rockers provide minimal hp increases, somewhere between 10-20 maybe.

There's no downside to it, but there's no upside either. You're not going to notice much difference with a 1.8 rocker over the 1.7 rockers you have because all you're doing is slightly increasing lift, the duration stays the same. It's not like upgrading cam shafts.
SLP, Yellow Terra, and Jesel are a few that make 1.8 rocker kits.

though i agree with the above, doing rockers should net you some hp. There are better ways to get hp then rockers, but changing springs and rockers is nothing simmilar to changing a cam which requires pulling the rack radiator and balancer. Springs and rockers is casually a saturday job. A cam is a significant amount of work even if you don't pull the heads.

After having a lifter fail on my motor reciently, i wouldn't do either without pulling the heads and replacing lifters. It becomes a slipperly slope from there to refreshing everything.

Thanks for advice. My motor has 74k on it. I would expect to change springs, retainers, pushrods since its apart. Trying to do something easier than a cam change. If I could gain 10-20hp. That would nice. I understand 2/3 cost of cam for only a 1/3 of the HP.

I recently did a bunch of research on this. IMO, its worth it for a bolt on car. Especially on with 74k on it. I just picked us a set of Scorpion 1.8 rockers for 280$. They were brand new in the box. I plan on using titanium retainers and a high quality spring. That paired with a ported stock TB and LS6 intake from peak speed should net a nice gain.

I put the SLP 1.85 rockers on because I was getting rid of the stock 2002 springs which are prone to breaking. I had patriot gold dual springs I had bought for another vehicle, and never used them. Gold duals are over kill with a stock cam, and are good for up to .650 lift. SLP 1.85 come out to about .600 lift on a stock z06 02-04 cam, and .600 lift is about were stock unported LS6 heads stop flowing any better.
I have no plans of doing a cam swap anytime soon, so the 10-15 hp increase is good enough for me now. if I did do a cam it would be with some ported heads and headers.

Thanks for the advice. I talked to Texas speed and I'm probably going with the SLP as well. The tb is out getting ported now. Then all I need is a 3.90 gear. And hope for 11.2x-11.3x.
