2002 Z06 very low miles
Hi guys haven't posted in a while. I have a chance to buy a 2002 Z06 black/black all original in mint condition with 6,400 miles. What do you think I should pay for this? Thanks for your help.

Check it out to make sure it hasn't just sat and rotted for 14 years. See if there's any carfax or service records - if it had 6,000 miles in 2005 and 6400 miles in 2015 that could be worrisome depending on how/where it was stored for all that time. If it was subjected to complete non-use coupled w/ extreme weather changes the top-end of the motor can oxidize/pit etc. over time. I purchased a 2003 Z06 in January of 2014 and it had 12,000 miles, and was also used sparingly and garaged/"babied" for many years. Trouble was it was stored in a garage by a retiree near the beach - unless it was shrink-wrapped (of course it wasnt) that salt air and temperature fluctuation will take a toll - all AL surfaces were dull and heavily oxidized, belts/rubber seals/gaskets/hoses dry-rotted.
Not like that's worse than a heavily modded '02 Z w/ 100,000 miles that has had the snot kicked outta it for 14 years on road courses....just different cars w/ different "needs" and details/issues to look out for.
OH - and mine was a black on black Z as well completely stock and I paid $24,500 FWIW

western cars are immune to dry rot. Amazing.

It was totaled by a guy who ran a stop sign.
This month I bought an exact duplicate with 5700 miles for 30.0
YMMV

Purchased my then bone stock '04Z from a dealership in November of 2013. 6900 miles, $30k. I would think racebum's $26k-$28k guess is right on the money.

Ummm, pretty sure that salt air produces the same effect whether it's the pacific or Atlantic- if you meant "west" as in OK- then yeah I'd agree.

1. we don't salt roads
2. marine air is only present about 20 miles max inland from the coast.
the midwest is extremely corrosive and known as the rust belt for a reason. you have a lot of humidity and salted roads. that kills cars
did you drop out of school or something? this is common knowledge

Also the term "rust belt" has F all to do w/ salting roads - it has to do w/ the fact that the area that comprises the "rust belt" was once an industrial
Hub in america- lots of manufacturing and heavy industry that died down completely so that deterioration of industry was referred to as "rotting or rusting"- death of industry, stagnant dormant manufacturing- "rust belt" MI OH IL PA -
Don't need to be so combative, and if you're gonna be, make sure you have your facts straight.
To the OP- I was simply stating that a low mileage "stored" car can have its own set of problems to address, and if it was stored near the coast- oxidation and dry rot is one of them.

many of you posters are misleading trash, this is why i'm often brash
if people took a good chunk of the advice laid out in this threads they would buy parts that do not work and misdiagnose their cars
many of the good threads on the c5 are from 2001-2006
more and more rednecks are getting these cars and opening their inbred mouths to mislead others
countless threads are made with bad advise and plain wrong answers on here
it's irritating
