Quality of work at dealer?

not all dealers are created equal. i'd definitely be wary if they didn't have one. vettes aren't terribly complicated but they have their fair share of foibles and nuances that a regular tech may not know how to deal with.

if it were me, id either make sure the only one who touches it is a vette certified tech or take it to an LSx specialist if it was something i couldn't handle myself.
OTOH i'm not sure how much training it takes to be "corvette certified" but it helps with a little peace of mind knowing they have at the very least a little vehicle specific training.

The few times my car has been in the dealer, it was always good. The two dealers I used were vette dealers, but even still the tech had a computer next to his station looked up fix, and followed GM protocol even know he knew how to do it. So so far I never had a bad dealer experience with any of my cars, with any brand.

I stopped in both the local Chevy dealer and Cadillac dealer. Both said they work on Corvettes all the time. The service manager at the Chevy dealer said he has 2 corvette guys.

At my age and level of (in)competence, 71 and a Liberal Arts Major, there is limited work I can do on my Corvette.
I, too, use the local dealership. There are no independent garages nearby that I would even bring in my lawn mower to fix...generally grease pits that use a 4x4 across the fenders to pull an engine or drop a tranny.
My dealership, "John Jones GM" in Corydon, IN., has done excellent work on my '99. Although, based mostly on the anti-dealer bias I hear on the forum, I wonder if I am paying "the Corvette Premium." I do believe I caught them once milking some warranty work to my financial detriment.
For comparison, I pay about $90 for a 4-wheel forced road balance and about $70 for an oil change. As an aside, with the oil change the dealership includes a written multi-step vehicle inspection - ostensibly to sell more services - but, for me, this signed dealership inspection sheet has served as the required inspection for my track days.
I do wish I had multiple GM dealerships, and/or decent independent garages in the area, just to get a little comparison and competition going.
Regards to all,
Gunny John

I use a local Corvette specialist, especially after I discovered that his shop labor rate was lower than the other local independent mechanics. But it's mostly convenience, as he's half as far away as the nearest GM dealer. (There used to be a Chevy dealer within walking distance, but they closed during the '08 kerfuffle...probably would be getting more of my business if it was still there.)
