Check engine light
I have an 04 vert with 46,000 miles. The car is all stock and my yellow check engine light came on tonight. Does it come on around 50,000 for a service call? Or could this be a sensor? Any ideas are appreciated.

Not aware of anything maintenance oriented that would turn on the CEL at a particular mileage. Pull the codes and see what you have. If you do a search here, there are many threads with instructions on how to pull codes if you don't know.

73 corvette, you are the man. I watched the video and came out and looked at all codes and cleared them. I had 1 TCM code and some others. I will drive the car and see if any other come up. Thanks for all your help. This forum is priceless for everyone's knowledge! Thanks again!!

Looks like I'd try a new gas cap... on our FJ cruiser this happens quite frequently and is directly related to using fuel with ethanol... if you can get 100% gasoline 91 at least octane and see if this makes the code go away... if it doesn't I would just ignore it. Our check engine light and many others come on in the FJ and has done it since we bought it brand new in 07... 100% gas and about 10 key cycles it goes away. Oh, and I have replaced the gas cap on it as well... it did help some. It's done it so long I just don't worry about it anymore although all the lights are annoying till they go away...

Why do people jump on the gas cap all the time before any REAL info is provided?? It's easy to pull the codes on a C5 and then you'll have REAL info to try to diagnose what the issue might be.

Offering advise like getting a new gas cap based on others experience is not like someone is suggesting he put on a new reluctor or putting in a new tranny seal...it's a freaking gas cap...So, I guess if you feel better about the Gas cap, no code pulling comments we're all good, unless you have something positive and REAL to contribute.

With a p0455, the most common repair is to: Remove and reinstall the gas cap, clear the codes, and drive for a day and see if the codes come back. Otherwise, replace the gas cap, and/or Inspect the EVAP system for cuts/holes in tubes/hoses (you may hear a vacuum noise or smell fuel), repair if necessary

I have an '04 stock with 46K currently. At 44K the check engine light came on and all I needed was a new gas cap. Good luck.

The best thing we did was clear all the codes and then drove it and the light hasn't come on. There was a long list of codes. I had the same code about the gas cap, I doubt there was anything wrong as the light didn't reappear.
