How high do you rap your LS1?

akapounder- , it's still a pleasure to drive the ole' girl and somewhere down the road she'll get her makeover !!
dbgoodwin- That's pretty much the way I see it, for being a basically stock FRC w/148,000 mi., with the original clutch, it hung in there. I guess that's maybe why he made his complimentary comment !!
73Corvette- Yup, it was a good day, good buddy, good lunch, good stories, good race, it was all good !!

Yesterday, a old friend of mine comes over and we decided to have a Margarita lunch, upon leaving the restaurant after lunch and heading home, a new black modded Camaro pulls up with a couple of young guys and throws me a 6 grand rev and it made me retaliate with the same. Next thing I know it triggers the old urge and we are side by side rolling in first gear and off we go, redline, grab second and he's 1/2 a car on me,redline, grab third and he's 3/4 of car on me, and I decide to get out of it, he slows down and pulls up again and then tells me what a 'nice' car I have . The moral to the story, don't have Margarita lunches with old friends then get your *** handed to you !!! Same as you, 345 hp, get home embarrassed, I need a supercharger fix, then I'll try another Margarita !!!!!! LOL
just messing with you

My car is A4 with 3.15 gears and if I romp on it, it shifts itself right at 6000. I don't do it too much with 140,000 on it but she runs good and pulls 6000 right now. If I remember right the red line don't start till 6000, but I haven't been in the car since Oct. That's about to change, just got the insurance put back on yesterday.

with the supercharger on my Z06 i will find my self playing the higher end of the rpm band once in a while...it won't hurt your car one bit at all..it's what the car was made to do after all

Geeze, I don't even know how high the redline is. I know it's pretty high. I gotta say that I really like how hard second and third gears pull. I run out of safe limits long before I reach anything near top speed. My chevy is just a real nice car that is fun to drive. It's really fun to hot dog and do square corners and that sort of thing.

The LS series of engines are very durable and can take a lot of
abuse. Happy motoring.

I wonder if ET runs his up to 7k?

I love hearing the nice growl at 3k to 3500... I'm just not comfortable running it up to 4k or 4500... is it hard on the LS1 to rap it pretty tight or should you stay in the lower rpm's. I know a Harley does NOT like high rpm's. Just curious what kind of rpm's ya'll are comfortable with?
If you really stand on an auto trans...where is the shift point from first to second?

These arent station wagon motors, really-afraid to go over 4k
Have run my truck 5.3 to 5800 rev limiter more times than I could ever count when it was newer. Has 170k on it now so it gets driven real easy;run my Gen1 past 7k almost every time I have it out no sweeter sound
You guys who treat these cars like they are some precious gem stone are missing out. Go hammer that thing and live a little or sell it to someone who will enjoy it

The engineers designed the powertrain to handle all kinds of driving. They know these cars are fun to drive and they know people will flog them regularly. And during development, the cars are thoroughly tested, over and over, abused and mistreated and "rapped" LOL. As long as it's running right, just enjoy it and don't worry about higher RPMs that aren't in the red zone. 5k should be a breeze for an LS1. If a major component fails, you will deal with it when it happens.
Also, there is hard driving and there is abuse - yes there is a difference. Hard driving usually results in worn tires, poor fuel economy and angry neighbors. Abuse often results in damage, sooner or later.

Almost as long for me driving manuals and we ALL miss a shift now and then. Think the redline on a stock LS1 of that vintage is about 6000-6200 RPM's then the computer takes over and cuts fuel to the injectors. Think the number is much less out of gear.

Been there. Went from 6th to what I wanted was 4th. Well still to this day I don't know how I got 2nd. Scared the **** out of me and maybe the forged internals helped I dunno as I am no expert but I got away with it. Of course as soon as I felt it I hit the clutch so I might not even hit redline as the tach was the last thing on my mind at that moment.

73Corvette, When it goes DA,DA,DA,DA,DA, !! Even though a tuner can change/ raise the level of the rev limiter it really has no desired affect beings that you are already past the engines factory HP/torque curve and twisting it any higher is futile. I would almost bet that the LS engines with-out a limiter could probably twist 7,500 rpm, possibly more, but just can't breath without head, cam, exhaust mods. Maybe someone can chime in and verify !!
