Default C5 oil change more than an LS1 camaro

So my local dealership wants to charge me $30 more for an oil change over my old 2002 ss camaro. There reasoning is that corvettes cost more except for they both use the same oil filter and oil amount. the cost is $79 for a camaro and $110 for my C5. this for 5w 30 Mobil 1 full synthetic. Also i cant do it myself as i live in a condo and i am not allowed to do any type of vehicle work in the parking garage.

Wow! That's a huge difference. But I don't get it either. Maybe try some where else.

Did prices go up? I had mine done at the dealership two years ago and it cost me $75-80.

For both cars. If they'll screw you on the small jobs, they'll screw you on the big ones too.
EDIT: Just to be clear, I don't think the $110 he's charging is outrageously high, but the fact he's charging more for the same parts/labor on two different cars is gouging, plain and simple.

Eh? Cheapest I've ever seen Mobil1 is about $7/qt...add in a filter and you've got $50. Unless you're in Bangladesh or at Jiffy Lube, 1/2-hour of labor will get the total to over $100.

Find another dealer!
Better yet find a local shop..I did and they even let me bring my own 10 qts. of Mobil 1. They are quite happy as they charge $30 labor for an oil/filter change.

40 bucks for regular car with syn blend, tire rotation and inspection. Twice that would be fair for a Vette and full synthetic. The inspection gives them a chance to find other things to fix.
I would find another shop.

Later cars use the z06 oil pan that holds more oil...including an Fbody.

"Later" as in C6/C7?
The C5 takes 6.5qts...hard to imagine any Camaro takes enough less than that to cover a $30 price difference.

The revised 01+ pans actually hold more than the earlier 6 qt pans. Either way that's more than an Fbody pan.

Yes, 6.5qt is more than 6qt. So what?
Do the math: even if F-body LS1s only held 4qts (which I find extremely unlikely), the oil would have to cost $12/qt to cover a $30 price difference.

At $110 for an oil change, I sure am glad I do my own changes. Five quart jugs from Wal-Mart @ about $26/jug, an A/C Delco filter and I have less than $50 total into an oil change. Find a friend that will let you use his garage or a shop that will allow you to bring in your own supplies and only charge labor.

Lol, ok. At retail good oil is about $8-9qt. At a markup it's probably $12 or something stupid.

While a quart and a half per say isn't huge, it's still more. More plus markup = $30. Don't like it; you can change your own oil.

It's usually $60 doing it myself buying two mobile1 change specials on sale. Roll over the extra filter and oil for the next go round.

Sorry you can't see that.

Ok, one more time, since math obviously isn't your subject.

You seem to think that the $30 difference between the two cars can be explained because it's 1.5qt extra at $20/qt after multiple markups. Ok, let's accept that rather dubious premise.

Now explain to me how a 6.5qt oil change costs $110 at $20/qt. Take your time figuring it out, we'll wait for you to catch up.

Yes please wait.

Obviously you don't run a business.

Let me break it down for you real slow.

When you need more of something; it costs more money.

If you want two of something it costs more than one of something

The numbers don't matter; although clearly you're fishing around for arithmetic while trying to insult my math skills. It's your logic that is insulting and you morons in general willing to pay $115 or whatever it is for an oil change.

I don't care if there is some magic corvette tax implied. If it's more oil, it's more. Period. End of story. Rationalize it between cost of oil, cost of keeping the lights on and paying the employee and extra 2 minutes, the cost of disposing and holding the extra amount, the extra rack time.

Frankly id charge you $60 extra for being such a dick over it.

Pay to play.
