The numbers don't matter; although clearly you're fishing around for arithmetic while trying to insult my math skills. It's your logic that is insulting and you morons in general willing to pay $115 or whatever it is for an oil change.

I don't care if there is some magic corvette tax implied. If it's more oil, it's more. Period. End of story. Rationalize it between cost of oil, cost of keeping the lights on and paying the employee and extra 2 minutes, the cost of disposing and holding the extra amount, the extra rack time.

Frankly id charge you $60 extra for being such a dick over it.

Pay to play.
Well, you apparently didn't read what I wrote, you apparently didn't read what the OP wrote, and as near as I can tell, you didn't even read what YOU wrote...because now you're disagreeing with things I didn't say and contradicting yourself. Go take a nap.

When I first bought my car a couple of years ago I took it to the Chevy Dealer. They always have specials. I paid $55 for oil and filter change. They did a good job.

Man right now oil is about $35 for a moble 1 change and $12 for a moble 1 filter I should start a oil changing business for $110 for 10mins of work. That's way more then I make building jets per hour lol.

Most dealers will do oil changes pretty cheap since there is a lot of competition. Oil changes are a good way to get you in the door so they can get your other business and then make big money. If they don't want your business they gouge you on the oil change.

Yup, and since C5s are now "outdated", many DON'T want your business, unfortunately

I'm not sure I see the logic in that. The older the car the more repairs needing to be made. They make more money off non-warranty repairs so that is the kind of business they'd want.

A lot of our parts are discontinued, therefore our cars can be a huge PITA for anybody who isn't a Corvette specialist or enthusiast of some sort

But isn't that equally true for OPs 2002 Camaro?

To paraphrase one of our Presidents: it's the Corvette tax, stupid.

Everything for Corvettes, from getting them worked on, to accessories are marked up. Always have been, always will be. You don't really believe a couple mufflers and some bent pipe cost $1,000 to make do you? Sorry, but Corvette owners are regarded as cash cows by the auto trade in general.

So, there's a 1/2 quart difference in capacity between the two vehicles. Mobil 1 can be bought at Wally's today for around $27 for 5 quarts. That's $2.70 for 1/2 quart. Hardly justifies the $30 price spread quoted between the Camaro and the Vette. Maybe $5.40 but that's with a with 100% mark up.

Gouging (aka, charge what you think the market will bear) pure and simple.

I understand living in a condo restricts you, personally I would shop around the independent shops for a decent price. At least you know what is should cost - about the same as the Camaro.

I don't think they care if you work on your car in the parking lot of most auto parts stores. Carry your jack and stands in the back and you can recycle the oil on the spot.

Camaros are easier to work on, but yes, it is true. My point was directed at the statement above about dealers making concessions to earn business... they didn't make concessions with the Camaro to earn business, they just charge what they charge.

No way are Camaros EASIER to work on. Try changing spark plugs on an F body sometime. Changing oil on the vette is EASY, I generally get Full Synthetic Quaker State for $5/qt on sale at Menards and another $5 for a Quaker State filter, $40 for an oil change, Challenger takes same amount but 5W20 and the bike takes 2 quarts so I can do the Vette, the Challenger and the Motorcycle for right around $100.

Reason most places charge the Vette tax is because most people that bring their Vette to the dealer don't know a wrench from a hammer.

I've had and worked on both. You can't tell me a transaxle/IRS Corvette with all its standard gremlins is simpler to deal with than an F-body with a solid axle, regular transmission and simpler BCM.

I buy 2x 5qt jugs at walmart on the way to the dealer....it's about 3$ per quart cheaper than the dealership.

since the filter pric is about equal, I let the dealer provide the filter.

25$ and an hour later, I'm out the door, with a few quarts left for the nex t time.
total cost about 60$

with the current mobile1 rebate, the 5qt jugs are ony 14$. I stocked up
