Default Poly bushings...who has them? Lets talk!

Hi,

Just looking for some info from forum members who have done this upgrade on their suspension (not just sway bars)

What brand did you go with?

What was the approximate cost?

Was there a noticeable difference?

Thanks

I'm down for this, too. I was looking at doing all my bushings when I did shocks and sway bars as well as ball joints and wheel bearings. I'd be interested in hearing about squeaks.

I put poly bushings on my 72 Olds control arms. Squeaks all the time. Wouldn't do it again even though it handles very well now for a 1972 vehicle..

Was there a noticeable difference? YES YOU CAN TELL A GOOD DIFF IF YOU RUN THE CAR IN THE CORNERS, AND THAT TYPE OF RUNNING. EVERDAY JUST DRIVING NO, OTHER THAN THE STIFFER AND MORE FIRM FEEL OF THE WHEEL. YES WELL WORTH IT TO ME...Robert

I installed the energy suspension bushings from Summit on all upper and lower control arms. Can't remember how much they were. As long as you have a press it's pretty easy. It takes longer to get the arms in and out of the car then to swap bushings. They don't squeak at all.

The car feels much tighter. I mainly did this to help keep wheel hop away.

I was going to post there but figured there is more exposure in C5 Gen. Thanks

Thanks for the feedback. I started tracking the vette and just wanted to know if the upgrade would be worth the trouble.

In the exact same boat brother! Just upgraded my springs, shocks, did my sways a couple of years ago, and now looking to see if poly's can improve on the overall package.

I will have access to a press for sure. I'm just not to familiar with the brands and what they had to offer, IE; greasable fittings, etc...

Regardless, if I decide to do it, it won't be until next summer. I just found even with my current upgrades the car isn't as firm as I would like it to be. I think going with the rear flares and custom offset on a 12" wheel change the dynamics of the car. Not necessarily in a bad way, but it feels like the car is somewhat imbalanced. I just got a set of new rear tires as my old ones were pretty much shot and I'm sure contributed to the instability so hopefully that will give me more confidence in the corners. Once I asses how it feels I will strongly consider doing the poly's.

Thanks again everyone.

Ball joint press + sawzall = piece of cake

To the OP, definitely noticeable handling improvement - but be prepared for a ton of squeaking. I went with T1 suspension for the rest.

Can the squeaking be remedied in anyway? Adding grease before pressing the bushings in? I used teflon tape on my sway bar bushings and grease to help minimize any noise from drying down the line...not sure if something like this would work for these type of bushings though.

I've used poly bushings in several of my cars, beginning back in the late 70s, when they first became available.

IMHO, if the roads are glass smooth, where you live, you'll enjoy the added precision of the handling. If the roads are rough, don't bother!!!

Back when cars had 70 series tires, and even some of the 60 series tires, there was enough sidewall cushioning the ride, that the poly bushing was a definite plus. Once sidewalls got to the "o-ring" height, the poly bushings are too harsh for most street usage. As an example, I put the Energy Suspension in my '96 Z/28, back when it was new. Took them out after just 1 summer....

Use either Energy Suspension's grease, or a product called 'Super Lube'..........
