Got my first Vette recently; 2000FRC. It is a HOOT.
Working with a $25k budget, get yourself a nice Z06 and enjoy the heck out of it. If it ever comes time to sell, you will be able to recover most of the $$ from it.
FRC is cheaper but needs a lot of mods to get to Z06 performance.
Autos suck Sorry, but they do.
Perfection:

Cheaper, higher miles (miles mean nothing to these cars if well maintained!):

Have a nice drive home!

don't let distance dissuade you! I've had excellent long-distance experiences several times. work with the seller over the phone, fly in & drive back. No better way to enjoy your new car! flight out is no more than a couple hundred bucks; then let your new C5 stretch it's legs a bit on I-10/20 back to DFW

I flew to Newark, NJ. to buy my C5Z. Drove it home to KC, Mo.! Great experience! Was thinking about looking for a second gen GTS Viper and if I do hopefully it's far away too

I've had two six speed C5s and now an A4 one and quite honestly, I've enjoyed each and every one of them the same. If you like to shift and do not have to deal with heavy traffic, the six speed may be right for you. But don't discount an A4 equipped car - it's still a Corvette and a blast to drive.

Coupe or FRC, Auto or 6 speed, Hmmmmm.
I went with a 2002 Pewter coupe with an automatic, I have done my share of shifting over the years, Do I have any regrets? No not a 1, I drove my auto for about a year or so and had Chuck at CoW do a tune for me, That was the best mod I have done to the car, He improved the gas pedal response which made a big difference, The biggest difference was the tuning on the transmission, He improved the shift points and change the line pressures and it shifts right now, No lag at all, If you do end up getting an auto try to get one with the 3.15 gears (Z51 Package), That is a big difference from the stock 2.73 gears.
Good luck on which ever one you get, You can't go wrong with the Coupe or the FRC, Just make sure you get which one you really want.

Always love the pics of your car - very well done - and a super car!

Is it more of a tingle you are feeling? Or is it actually the itch? If you feel an itch, clearly you need to focus on nothing but the Z06. My advice would be to scratch hard and not dick around. Get a Z06.
It is also my opinion that auto is better suited to take care of a tingle. If you have an itch my friend, you need to use your left foot and right hand to scratch it. Comprende?
Fast. Gorgeous. Fun. You need to find yourself the Z.

The A4 and A6 cars are much more fun to drive.... And faster too.
You should give it a try.

Autos are the reason why the faster more consistent cars win at the drag strip. Ever miss a shift? Blow an engine selecting the wrong gear?
But I wouldn't own one unless I lost an arm or leg and just couldn't shift. There is no greater pleasure then rowing through the gears and feeling the acceleration. Well until you're parked at an uphill red light with a tail gating douche bag behind you. Stop and go traffic is also annoying with a stick

A/T, or M/T, it's clearly a personal choice. If I drag raced, I would prefer an auto. The internal shift linkage on Tremecs make it more difficult to power shift, than the old school 4 speeds; at least for me. For mostly low density driving, the manual is more fun, but I live in a sparsely populated area. On the subject of body style; first choice FRC/Z, and then 'vert.
On an unrelated matter; Damn, Bill; that's a gorgeous picture!

IMHO, if you're thinking FRC and a 6 speed, and you've got a $25K budget, you might want to think a Z car. From a value/price standpoint, they may have bottomed out with clean cars at around 50K on the clock going in the mid to low 20's. There's plenty available in the high 20s low 30s. If you can find a nice one within your budget, it may be the best value buy you can make. (This from a guy driving an A4 coupe). But the Z-06, in my opinion is something special and it appears to me that buyers are taking notice of them.
