Default 2004 upgrade from a 95.

Just traded my 95 off and got a2004 c5. Wow what a difference. My question is ,what's is the difference in a cat back vs.axleback exhaust ? Wanting to upgrade from the stock exhaust that it has now. Any difference in the sound and what about installation ease. Thanks any help will be great.

Catback will be from just aft of the cars...axle back, is well just from the rear axle back. Install is simple for either-

If you are not going headers I would just go a axel back setup, No need to change the cats in my opinion. Sound would be about the same.

Or if you want to get an X-pipe to replace the factory H-pipe, you can get catback, otherwise axle back is what most people do.

The factory exhaust system is really quite good, so you're not really replacing it to add much to performance, its mostly for sound. I don't think mufflers gain you much hp, headers and X-pipe would be what you want to get if you're interested in a little more power.

For me personally I went with Long tube headers and off road xpipe. I picked up a nice set for the same price as most catback systems on the market. They give you a good increase in hp and tq and sound tame through factory exhaust until you step on it and then they really scream! However I have Z06 titanium exhuast not sure what it sounds like on factory c5 exhaust.

I am doing something similar with mine. First thing I did was add the Z06 mufflers.

I went from a '94 to my '01 and yea, kinda a big difference.

I did LTs, high flow catted X pipe, TIs, CAI, LS6 intake/TB and an ECS mail order tune on my wife's 99 A4 coupe. What a HUGE difference I enjoy driving it every bit as much as my blown 02 Z06 now

Thanks for your input.. I had never even considered the headers sounds interesting to look into.

I added the Billy Boat Route 66 to both my C6 and this C5 . . .really like the sound and none of the dreaded "drone".

Looks like the axle back is pretty simple. eBay sell a lot of these knock off brands a lot cheaper but are they any good?

That was a problem I did have with the 95 I got rid off was the drone at about 45 mph and up but it sure sounded good at acceleration and downshifting. The 2004 factory sounds so quiet.

Corsa will sound great. Let a muffler shop install it.

Congrats on the upgrade!

MUST have new exhaust, you're right! I loved the route 66, no headers, that I had on one of mine. I've also had headers and exhaust on a couple. Much, much louder. I guess it's personal preference. Well, and how close the neighbors are when you start your car, and what time of day that is.
