Install LMC5 or not ?

Huh? Eliminates what wiring? I thought the whole point of the LMC5 is that you did not need to remove any previous recall harness wiring under the steering wheel.
As for the the CLB, it's completely plug and play. There is no splicing involved. It just plugs in place of the column lock motor harness which gets completely disconnected. It's no harder than plugging in a CAGS bypass for the manual tranny. Just saying.

LMC5 install
Great info. Thanks everybody for you replies on this subject. I most definitely will install the LMC5 and forget about this issue and move on.
Thanks again for a great , active , and informative website.

If it were me, I would get either the LMC5 or a column lock bypass and install it as soon as possible. No use waiting until the column lock hits before addressing a known problem and besides, it is not all that expensive to do the fix.

Little reading comprehension issue there? It eliminates the WIRING THAT HAS BEEN CHANGED BY PREVIOUS RECALLS. It bypasses all that and that wiring can be left as is, no matter which harness you have in. The harness wirings are bypassed (eliminated from the circuit). You ARE correct when you say that you do not need to replace any previous recall harness wiring under the wheel, and that's what I said.
Depending on the context, the word "eliminate" usually means "to get rid of or remove". That is what I understood. No need to throw in personal attacks.

Hmmm.....Does talking down to people make you feel better about yourself? Screaming it does not make it clearer (use of capitals). It just shows how impolite you are.

Go back and read your "Huh, eliminates what wiring" and then repeating the same thing I just said response to my post. That didn't seem like you were being particularly polite. Sorry you got butt hurt. Responding with challenging misunderstandings because you didn't read carefully may get worse returns than what I said. I merely pointed out your comprehension skills let you down. You don't have to like what I said or how I said it, it's still true.

I just did the LMC5 today and it works like a charm. Easy Peazy too.
Jack if you haven't done it, at least buy it and keep it in the glove box.
A little added peace of mind.

Why buy it and keep it in the glove box. That's like buying a gun for home defense but not buying bullets.

It does disarm your fuel shutoff feature, which is part of the theft deterent.
First time I had encountered it on the only C5 that had the CLB done by the dealer. Third C5...I'm lucky like that.

When I installed mine it took about an hour, but I took my time and checked and rechecked every move to be sure. The factory recall doe's not fix the problem, it just makes it so you don't try to drive it.

OK. I think my car had the recall done on it. The steering wheel doesn’t lock when turned off and key pulled but there is a motor sound that comes on briefly in the steering wheel. I’m guessing it had the plate removed? If so, do I still need to install the LMC5? Thanks in advance!

The recall does a bandaid fix, it may fix the problem and it may not. When GM or your dealer did the recall they also set the fuel to shutoff at I think 10-20 MPH if the column does lock again to eliminate an accident. My current Z06 had the recall but not sure if the LMC5 has been done, just bought it a few months ago. I installed it on my previous 01 but may role the dice on this one. If it ain't broke don't fix it type thinking. B well.
