Default Can you floor a C5 in light rain without spinning?

Hey guys my brother is a retard who crashed his trans am into a pole when the roads were wet and now wants to buy another one. Thing is in Vancouver it rains alot and I was telling him to get a C5 with stability and traction. That way he can have fun in the rain without worrying about dying. I'm talking about straight line fun. Not cornering. He's telling me the c5's TC control isn't even good enough to push the pedal in the rain without spinning. Is this true?

Thanks

Haha I totally understand that but I'm trying to help him get something safer. My friend has a 5 series and he just smashes it all the time in the rain for fun without any traction loss. Just wondering if the one on the c5 is similar?

thanks

JMO, but your brother needs to learn how to drive for whatever weather condition is happening. Even with active handling and traction control, the laws of physics still apply. Flooring the gas pedal when roads are wet will still cause the tires to spin. Traction control will limit the spin, but not eliminate it totally. If the car has active handling, it will help keep the car straight, but still bad things can happen in less than ideal road conditions. And a lot will depend on the tires that are on the car.

If he wants to have fun with the car, do it when the pavement is dry and preferably at a track.

Maybe he needs a chevy Aveo, he can mash the pedal on ice with it and it won't spin a tire.

To answer the OP's original question, the active handling, traction control and ABS on the C-5 is actually quite good. However, I suspect your brother would be stupid enough to turn it off when trying to show off, thus another C-5 will end up at the salvage yard.

Yes, it will work extremely well in the wet. In a straight line, you can floor it and be relatively safe rain or shine. On a curve, who knows. As others have stated, it cannot compensate for stupid drivers.

Light rain is the worst of wet conditions. Its not enough to wash away road grime and oil from the pavement so the oil basically floats on top of the street. Anyone wanting to 'floor' any sports car or car with any kind of decent power in the rain is indeed retarded. Good luck and stay safe.

If he does go out and buy a C5, please have him call me when he wrecks it. I would love to buy it cheap for a parts car.

You notice I said "when", not "if"

That sums it all up.

Wet road + V8 RWD car + Moronic idiot at the wheel who feels that "good traction control" means no spinning the tires in the rain = Complete and utter fail.

Anyone flooring a car in the rain deserves what they get. I'd advise him against a C5 as I'd hate to see another Corvette end up totaled due to the actions of a fool.

I'm sorry...but man, OP, that statement of his you posted has GOT to be one of the dumbest things I've ever heard, and that's really saying something.

It's called 'driving according to conditions' which obviously you both have no clue about since you're asking the question. As already stated, buy a Subaru. I'd hate to see you guys on the road on the two days a year that we get snow in Vancouver.
