Default How many non EBCM/SWPS problem owners

Most of the time when we read or hear about the EBCM or SWPS, it is because of a problem with one or both of them, obviously. But how about the many, many C5 Corvettes that have been EBCM and/or SWPS problem free. I have been on the forum for several years, new to the C5, and most of the posts on the forum are people looking for solutions to problems. That's the beauty of the forum, great knowledge and help.

My 2000 vert does not have either of these problems, and I hope never will (knock on wood). I just installed the LMC5 for column lock prevention, and I exercise my BPMV pump, hopefully will help.

So, how about lets hear from the positive "I don't have these problems" owners.

These are awesome cars, surely with the quantities built, the odd are in our favor of mostly trouble free rides.

None of those problems on any of the three C5s that I've owned.

I raise the rear end and put it on jack stands, then in 2nd gear run the car up to about 10 mph. Doing so activates the traction control, which in turn runs the ABS pump

I've been told that battery charger can wipe out the electronics, so perhaps guys that don't have issues, are the ones who keep their battery well maintained, or disconnect before charging. I suppose it could just be the type of charger they use also.

The chipset in my EBCM was wiped out when I purchased it. The PO had to constantly charge the battery due to the car sitting too long. I'm confident this wiped out the chip.

I have a 2000 with no active handling (how lucky can I get?). My brother has two 97's. None of the dreaded problems with any of the three and all three over 100,000 miles on the clocks.

Wow, have not heard that yet. Always see posts about keeping the battery charged to keep the gremlins at bay. How can a trickle charger damage the electronics?

Can't think of a way that doesn't involve operator error.

Replaced the SWPS on my 04 at about 60,000 miles. Been trouble free except for that.

I was told there is a TSB from GM regarding this matter. I have not seen it if indeed it exists, so maybe someone else knows for sure. Don't know if it is relevant to a trickle charger either.

IIRC it has to do with the type of wave the charger puts out and is not friendly to certain electronics. So not all chargers are at fault.

Edit: I just remembered who told me this. It was the repair tech that tried to fix my bad module. He said it was common for battery chargers to do damage, and told me about the TSB. I just didn't verify it yet.

Looking at the records that I got with my 02 it shows the ABS computer/module being replaced by Reeder Chevrolet in Knoxville, TN on 9/22/2009 at 62,519 miles. It now has 80k with no codes to report.

No EBTCM/BPMV systems problems with my non-AH '99. Not having AH also obviates any concerns for a SWPS issue as well.

Have a 99 A4 coupe with 70K miles and an 02 Z06 with 40K. I had to solder a relay on the 02s EBCM and that fixed the problem. Have not had an issue with the 99 luckly.

Yup. I'd be interested in knowing the date on that TSB: I suspect it involved chargers made back before there was a lot of solid-state electronics in cars. Not sure I'd be too concerned about a charger sold in the last 20 years or so.
