Nitto NT555RII vs. NT555R
I need new tires. I've been running NT555RII in sizes of 275/40/17 up front and 305/35/18 in the back. Nitto doesn't make the 17 in. tire in NT555RII any more. I just got off the phone with the tire shop, and they have the NT555RII for the back but wanted to sell me the NT555R for the fronts which Nitto makes in available sizes.
I am running a A&A superchaged C5 with approx 600 rwhp, and I do aggressive canyon carving. Is this a good idea to go with the NT555Rs on the front?

I'm in a similar boat as you. I run the R2's. Fronts are discontinued. I have 480-500whp so need something that sticks. From what I hear, the NT05 is a suitable replacement. It's not as track oriented or sticky/soft as the R2's, but sticky enough to hold some power and carve canyon roads without issue. I think I'll be going to NT05 at the end of the season

In my group everyone liked the NT05s. They are a great street tire. When mine needed replacing (active handling kept going off during a run) I decided to move up ti the NT555RII even though they were specific for a road race tire (as the ads said). The RIIs have been a great tire for my application. We don't see a lot of rain in Southern California, and I usually only drive for short runs.
I would be inclined to move to the NT01, but they really look like a dedicated road racing slick. I would not want to get caught in the rain with those tires on. Especially with nearly 600 rwhp.

Bump for the work week crew.
I'm considering NT05's, Toyo R888s, and NT01s. I'm even considering putting NT555RIIs on the back and NT05s on the front.

It looks like both the NT555RII and NT05 might be discontinued, they do not exist on the new Nitto website. Given that, I would narrow your choice down to NT01 vs R888. Most reviews indicate that the NT01 is a better choice (and they're cheaper) - both come in your 275/40/17 and 305/35/18 sizes too so I'd get the NT01 if it was my car.

I was told that N555rII tires are identical to Toyo R888s (Nitto is the american division of Toyo tires BTW).
NT01s are extremely similar also, I think any of those 3 tires would work well for you.
DO NOT put N555rs on the front. They are only designed to be used as rear tires. I have N555rs in the back and N555 regular tires in the front. I really like the combo, but I'm sure having R888s or NT01s all around would do better in the twisties.
