Do a search on column lock - there's lots of reading...

Things like year, manual or automatic, approximate miles and any mods is a good start. Putting it in your profile will help for the NEXT problem you run into.

It seems that both, an LMC5 Module and an LMC5 Unlocker, are in your very near future...

From their website:

DO I NEED AN LMC5?

The answer is YES if you have one of the following C5 Corvettes:
  • 1997-2004 with a manual transmission
  • 1997-2000 with an automatic transmission
  • 2001-2004 European export Corvettes with an automatic transmission

You DO need to use the LMC5 Unlocker when installing the LMC5 module if:
  • Your C5 steering column is currently locked, and does not unlock when the key is inserted and turned to "ON."
  • Your C5 steering column locks and unlocks normally.

Along with the LMC5 unlocker, you will need the LMC5 kit and necessary tools.
More details here and here.

If you really need to get it unlocked now, shake the steering wheel back and forth hard, and it will eventually unlock.

As suggested above order and install an LMC5 and unlocker. The ONLY permanent fix for the Column Lock Symptoms.: yesnod:

LMC5 is about $40 and unlocker a small amount additional plus shipping.

Here is a procedure that you can try to get the column unlocked. If it DOES unlock for you don't drive the car again until you have the LMC5 installed. You WILL get stranded again without it.

I have the LMC5 on mine and a COH CLB on my wifes C5.

This has worked for me on my first C5.

Many people have just had the lock mechanism bind and this is the way to release it (hopefully). HOWEVER, you must put in your key for this is work.

If this does not work as has happened with a few people then some "surgery" will be required if it is really bound up. We can do some more diagnostics before we go that far to see if it is something else causing the unlock to not work.
